Brady determines everything as far as how free agency goes for Our in house free agents. I can not see him leaving, but bb is a “year early vs a year late” kind of guy.

I think thuney, van noy, karras, Collins, Shelton and mccourty can all get better Money outside New England. But will they take it?

I’ve accepted the fact that Brady is gone, and we are gonna have that 13.5M or w/e it is hit remaining. Of those you listed I’d like to see Karras, Van Noy, McCourty, and Shelton back at the right price. If that happens, doesn’t leave much for anything else. Maybe some tough nosed, serviceable FA’s that can come in on the cheap. That’s why I’d like to see us go volume with the draft this year. Gonna be a bonkers off-season.

Clearly this all depends on free agency, but at the minute I see them taking a front seven player at 23. I love Patrick Queen in particular.

The other option I could strongly see is a trade down. Particularly as apparently they will explore the veteran trade market according to Tom Curran, which might mean needing to recoup a pick or two. Could see a trade to the 40s and then taking someone like KJ Hamler.

For me it's TE and WR, in this order.

    TE we simply have none.

Unfortunately, the TEs this year are absolute garbage. Big O has some receiving skills (but has his warts still), Kmet from Notre Dame is perfectly mediocre in every way besides his size, and that's about it. I think you either snag a deep sleeper that never went to the combine or you punt on it until next year.

Edit: I will say, you can check my post in the other thread about TEs. I've looked them over more, and I've found a few guys who could still be decent but not great.

I say we need to hit on this draft to get this team younger.

The best way for that to happen is you go with your board.
    Best player available.
When we start to pick a position instead of BPA then we reach and that always spells trouble.

We can trade or use FA to cover all bases. Obviously we have to purge some UFA players whose contracts are up to give us some Cap freedom

I think it's telling the fact the only QB to meet with McDaniels directly was Herbert.
It's interesting we have been linked to Mariota and that is who has been mentoring the kid.
Maybe a trade up I know board would melt down to draft Herbert.
I could see the Patriots packaging a asset like Gilmore or a future first to get in the top 10.

To draft Mahomes, KC on gave up a first and a third (27 and 91 overall). We have picks 23 and 87 overall. It should not cost much more than that to move into the top ten.

He was drafted #10 overall. Both Burrow and Tua will likely be gone by then and I don’t like the idea of trading up for Herbert. The kid is way to skittish in the pocket for my tastes.

I thought the Chiefs gave up a first the following year too, or am I thinking about the Trubisky trade ?

Funny you say that, I just have a feeling, when all is said and done, 15 years from now, we will be talking about Herbert as the best QB from the 2020 draft. He just has it all, a cannon arm, good touch on the ball when needed, smart, tough, a fiery leader. I like everything about him. He just seems like he has what it takes to be a VERY good NFL QB. Not sure he will be great, but it really depends on where he winds up, that sometimes has a HUGE impact on the final product.

He’s got all the tools and he’ll be fine as long as he’s not rushed or playing comfortably with a lead. Unfortunately, that’s not always going to be the case in the NFL.

Starting to lean towards taking an OT at #23. At least six potential first-round OTs, one of them will fall to #23 for sure. We could move Wynn into LG and let Thuney walk, or draft a Marcus Cannon replacement now.

Without a high functioning OL, the NE offense will be tepid... regardless if they are protecting a 43 yr old QB or a neophyte.
Should BB continue to bank on Wynn to hold down the LT position? Wynn was drafted at #23 in 2018 and makes just under $3 mill per season.
If BB believes a starting caliber LT is available at #23 allowing Wynn to move inside + sub at both LT/RT as well.... the OL will not only be stabilized but potentially be a team strength as well.....at a cost of $3 mill per. Beats funding another team’s ex disgruntled big name for $10-15 mill per.
I’d then hopefully draft an interior OL (C?) who can provide some much needed push. The Pats short yardage running game was anemic at best though their punter appreciated the extra opportunities.

I've been trying out mocks on Fanspeak since the combine ended, and occaisionally I have had available to me at 23 one of Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills, Mekhi Becton or Andrew Thomas...If any one of those four is still available during the real round 1 - especially Wirfs or Wills because of their possible 4-position versatility - then I would have no problem turning in a card with any one of those four names on it.
