Which position is the easiest for a rookie to adjust from college to the pros?

In your opinion,other than Kicker or Punter,Which position is the easiest transition to learn and adjust from college into the pros?
....if there is in fact one easier than the others.

Personally I say it would be DE where you may just need to bulk up,strenthen the legs and be a bit quicker to get past OT/OG on way to the RB or QB

I say a lot depends on the coaches and scouting department and how well they projected that player into their system. You could make a case for offensive line over the years as we have plugged in a lot of obscure names that eased into the role rather nicely. Same for runningback. But that may be just our teams system how they run things. Not neccesarily other teams.

RB, time and time again, if you can run, you will be OK.

Now, as for being a RB in a passing situation with blitz pick-up and all that, then rookie it is time to head to the sidelines and let a vet back in.

That is why what Woodhead did last year is so remarkable, he stepped right in, at week 2, without a camp, and picked up the whole thrid down offense.

I might also throw guard into the mix, as the tackles and centers make all of the line calls, so I doubt he have too think too much when the guy next to you is basically telling you who to block before the play.

This is another reason why, unless a team has a glaring need (which we don't)
AND there is a special, home-run-hitter available (which there isn't),
a RB should not have to be drafted in the 1st round
(or, in our case, the 2nd or 3rd or 4th or 5th rounds).

Running Back. Look at how many year after year step right in and do well right away - many of whom came out of college a year or two early.

Second might be a pass rusher (4-3 DE, 3-4 OLB) who is given limited responsibilities (i.e., don't ask too much from him in pass coverage right away.) In general defensive lineman and defensive front seven seem to adapt more quickly than other positions (though I will readily admit that I have no data to support that.)

there was an article on cnnsi by Dr Z. (paul zimmerman pre-stroke) a few years ago - he said RB was the easiest and naturally QB / WR were the hardest.

Mark Ingram could come in here and start at RB after about a 5 minute conversation.

RB. But with the caveat that some players can't make the transition to the next level regardless of position. The speed of the game is a shock for these guys to see other people bigger, faster, and stronger than them when they've been dominating lesser college competition.

Easily RB....i don't get people saying DE as the 2nd easiest....quite a few 1st round guys haven't mounted to **** in recent years

You seem to have forgotten how dynamic Moroney looked his rookie year in the league.....before he got the first of his many injuries.

I am never going to consider Maroney a Bust....Disappointing sure, but not a bust. A guy with a ypc over 4 and that many TDs is not a bust. Vernon Gholston is a bust(of monumental proportions). Kevin OConnell was a bust, Chad Jackson was a bust. Lawrence Maroney WASN'T a bust. Just not as good as we hoped when we got him.
