Where was the crowd noise guys?

Maybe the guys who complained about the noise at the stadium tonight should buy a TV set that isn't purchased with the announcement of " today's Blue Light Special is....."

The sound of my $3,000 TV says you guys who attended the game were great tonight.....

Wow. Without irony someone actually said this. LOL. I bet my dad can beat up your dad.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at a pro football message board that we have one of those guys here.

Maybe you should invest in a sound system for that glorified computer monitor you have, then you'll be able to know what we're talking about.

Thanks to those who described what it's like at the games. The pink hat/suit wearers have too much of a stake, but there are still lots of die hards.

Plus, too many people took it personally when we asked about crowd noise. Note: you are not a crowd, so chill. If you are at this board I'm sure you were loud etc..

It's just embarassing compared to, say, Pittsburgh, Green Bay, etc., looking at, and listening to the crowds there versus in Foxboro is a big difference. Weather it's acoustics in the stadium, lame-ass corporate crumpet eaters, or a combination is an interesting question. I have heard players complain about it.

One factor is that we don't have a single team color that people wear. Red, white, and blue, and sometimes grey are all appropriate Patriots jersey colors. Other places they all seem to settle on one color so it makes the crowd stand out more.

I do believe the guy who gave the excellent list of acoustic changes b/w Foxboro Stadium and Gilette. What the f-ck was Kraft thinking there?

Big exception: the Jets snowball game in 14th game of season.

All I know, you who are close enough and can afford the tickets, are very very lucky. They should kick out the sissy people asking others to sit, and have a big pool of rabid crazy-ass fans ready to take their place. If you don't live up to your responsibility as a fan, then you are out. Nobody reading this would be subject to such punishment. The pink suits are the target.

No offense to anyone who wasn't at the game, but you can't tell from TV how loud the crowd was. The crowd was very good tonight - my section (most of it) did not sit the whole game. It was the best crowd of the season except for the San Diego game (after Spygate hit). This week will be one of the loudest crowds in the history of Gillette, anyone who doesn't stand/scream will be shamed into it by people around them. I can't speak for the club seats though, sometimes they don't seem to get too active.

Way to go Brady and Pats!

For those who were there, when watching on TV it seemed the crowd was not making that much noise, even on fourth down plays it was only moderate. What was it like in the Razor?

I thought it was nuts and very loud. In addition no one was sitting all game long with the exception of the red seats. Some of you guys make way too much of this. It was really loud but we don't play in a dome.

whoa! i won't get into "mine is bigger than yours," but if you're still getting your sound from the speakers on your TV, it definitely is. my system didn't detect the kind of disruptive sound we get in Indy, KC or Seattle, when tuned at a reasonable level. and i'm not dissing the folks who were there. i think there is some sort of design issue at Gillette that doesn't allow the noise to impact what's going on on the field.

What is it with those bloody red seats?!!! :enranged:

Thanks to all of you who were there for setting us TV-watchers straight and taking the time to let us know.

is it just that it's not dome, or is there something about the overall design of gillette that dissipates the noise? kc and seattle are open air, but the noise is concentrated onto the field. this is an honest question. i don't know the answer, but i take your testimony that the noise coming from the fans was significant. however, it doesn't seem to reach the field in a disruptive way.

12th man is important: JUST DO YOUR JOB is posted on the way into the Patriots facilities.

To those fans who were there, that did your job, good work! Sometimes it takes a leader off the field to rally the troops, go get the donut eating pink suit wearing sissy off the bench to cheer. I bet a lot of you who read this board kick ass at that stuff.

Incidentally, how much rousing of the crowd do Patriots players do at the home games? I'm surprised I don't see more of that on the TV, given that the players have complained about lack of CN in Gilette.

Read my earlier post in this thread itemizing Gillette's design flaws.

Has anyone asked Kraft about it in an interview? I.e., "You seem to have such perceptive vision for the future of the team. In contrast, what the hell were you thinking with the design of that stadium?"

To everyone complaining about this topic, if you think it is unimportant you are ignorant. 12th man is HUGE. Ask any player who has to try to hear audibles. If you think it is important but don't want to talk about it then stop reading the thread.

Gillette's design has five very distinct disadvantages:

(1). The upper deck is vaulted high above the field, spread out and separated from the rest of the stadium by double-tired luxury boxes. It also does not cover the end zones.

(2). The stadium floor is laid out for international-regulation soccer, NOT football, creating extra space between the sidelines and end zones, and the stands.

(3). Corporate club seating was very poorly conceived being concentrated on the mid-level sidelines. This represents thousands of prime seats that rarely are filled with rabid fans, especially in bad weather.

(4). The north end zone is open-ended to accommodate the "picturesque" lighthouse/bridge design.

(5). The open concourse view around the stadium's perimeter and the four "skylight" sections separating club seats from the mezzanine sections allow further evaporation of sound.

Bottom line: Gillette is a multi-purpose stadium with MAJOR design flaws the Krafts did not consider in terms of optimizing the football experience. They got what they wanted -- a pretty building that caters to high rollers.

Great post!

I asked just now, but I should put it here: has anyone ask Kraft why he decided to kill the 12th man? Or more diplomatically, what the hell was he thinking?

Gillette is a quiet stadium, and Pats fans are not the best. But last night everyone stood and screamed for 60 minutes. It was as loud as people can make it.

I listened to some highlights on WEEI driving home from the game last night and the national announcers (Not Gino and Gil) on more than one occassion said "wow, listen to this crowd!!" On some of the highlights you could barely make out what they were saying.

He wasn't thinking about focusing crowd noise onto the field, that much is obvious.

So as not to offend the proper Bostonians.

Oh stop it already. Your main comment coming from having just watched the game was "The crowd didn't sound very loud." Was that it? It was a dumb post.

Learn to read. I said in the original post:

Take your ritalin and stop clogging this post with your noise.

I've been to every home game but one (in 2000) since 1994. The crowd tonight was very loud. Period. Since you asked for it Bozo, consider the following:

Thanks. That's one of the most helpful posts I've seen out here in a long time. So, the two opposing views that have been expressed out here can both be right. One, that the crowd is plenty noisy and two, that the crowd doesn't sound noisy at field level. I wonder if any thought went into this when they were designing the stadium?

We've just got to face the fact that Gillette doesn't hold crowd noise well and it doesn't translate on TV. Everyone stood the entire game and was very loud. There is nothing more that can be done.

I wonder if any thought went into this when they were designing the stadium?

They were thinking about designing a multi-purpose stadium (soccer, concerts and football). Plus, the open end with the lighthouse effects the kicking game.

Your normal fan that would pound on the metal bleachers in Foxboro has been priced out - it's that simple. This has been over-analyzed, in my opinion. Used to be if you went to Foxboro Stadium in another team's jersey and it was a big game, you were BEGGING for problems...

Sums it up: I grew up with the old Garden / bleacher creatures / stadium crazies & it would be nuts! & forget about being in the other teams attire..
Not saying that it should go back to that at all but the lazy fat f*cks who want to pretend their at home on their lazy chair should not pretend it is a church sermon or soemthing!

Bottomline: stadium isn't conducive to noise and there are less crazies too (who are sometimes needed to go after the opponent! Good entertainment u know!). Wish I was able to still go and enjoy seeing history in person!!

I thought the crowd noise was excellent and a definite factor in the 4th qtr. Has anyone who was at the game not think it was loud?
