Moss does not liked to be preached to or talked down to... but IMO, NE does stand the best chance to keep him in check. Winning always helps. But once Moss gets his arrogant swagger back, there's no telling what will happen. How will the fans treat him if he walks off the field with 30 seconds left on the gameclock... even if they're winning?
Here's how it goes down:
1) Moss has indicated that he will give up tangibles to be part of the NE magic.
2) Moss has indicated that he will
try to conform in terms of intangibles (see recent attempts at Patspeak in interviews.)
3) What we do not know is whether the paradigm shift he is attempting to embrace will take root, take hold, whatever.
4) What we do know is that his football gifts are incredible - and this is shored up against the "Moss lost a step" crowd by that recent 40 time.
Hey guys, worst case scenario? We lose $3M, a little more than we were slated to pay a
kicker a couple years back -- and in the wake of the greatest 2-year run-up in cap dollar inflation in history. And we get the chance to take this very minor risk, at the cost of a fourth round draft pick.
Mr. Moss has made it very palateable for us all to find out what he can/will do in the NE environment.
He's 30 this year, and evidently is trying to embrace acting like a grownup on and off the field. Well, here's his first test, the media.
I'm still pumped up from the draft and seeing this in exaggerated terms no doubt, but I think this is a make-or-break spiritual journey for him. He can either come to terms with team-first, or he can't... but we know one thing, and it's a positive. He very much
wants to.
There's an old joke.
How many psychoanalysts does it take to change a light bulb?
One. But the light bulb has to
want to change.
