Whats up with the special teams?

I haven't seen much of the preseason games but the Pats seem to be giving up big chunks of yards on kickoffs and punts. Is there a big change in the kickoff and return teams that may explain whats going on? Anyone have any insights?

The kickoff unit has 5 rookies plus John Lynch. The punt unit has

Mayo, Slater, and 9 veterans. You can blame inexperience for the

kickoff problems but not the punt unit.

I just remember seeing missed tackles and that is probably because this is preseason and nobody wants to wear themselves out.

Not saying I disagree, but I believe the reason for the thread is do find out why. Any insight?

Like everyone else on the planet, the punt unit expected the ball to sail well out of bounds. Not an excuse...and definitely a learning experience.

What makes you so confident on this topic? Special teams thus far this preseason have been a disaster overall.......16 days to go or so......where and how do you see them improving dramatically in this time frame? I think we are going to have some problems in special teams this year......reminds me of a few years ago when Wes Welker killed us both times we faced Miami........and everyone else got great field position as well.....Hope you are right...thx
