What We Learned From Watching The Patriots Pre-Season Game Against The Lions
By: Russ Goldman

The Patriots gave a very bad performance in their 34-10 loss to the Lions. Read what I learned from watching this game....

Welcome to the other side of an "attacking Defense".

Several times the Lions screened successfully, and several times they ran a man right into the hole created by a blitzer for big gains.

The secondary was forced to play more single coverage and the Lions passed for three plus-thirty yard gains in the first half alone; and several more "big plays" in the second half.

Bill Belichick prefers a read-and-react defense that yields lots of small gains but nothing big. He has consistently won doing so, while others have lost with the "attacking Defense".

What an attacking defense can give you, an attacking Defense can also take away.
