What the Pats want for Mallet according to

It's not an attack if it's true, and you really are a douchebag.
This from the guy who thinks Ryan Mallett has more experience than Andrew Luck. After all, Mallett has 3 years experience, right?

But don't get your panties all in a bunch. It's not my fault you're making a fool of yourself. I'm only a catalyst to the process.

Fair enough Sup. I see it differently but you may be right that no-one is going to give them more than that for him, the only reason i think it's possible O'Brien might is because he coached him and he could see him as a really good player, and in his case it would free up his 1st overall and give him a QB with experience running his system.

All reasonable points that are hard to dispute. It will be fun to see how it plays out.

In the meantime, I'm wondering if trading down isn't a strong consideration as well, obviously dependent upon who is there at the time--like always.

I would like to see that happen, as long as we don't wait too long to pick. If we end up moving from 29 to say, 37 or something--I'd probably be happy. It'd work out even better if we were able to still grab Aaron Donald, although that's highly debatable of course.

Word has it that Houston isn't drafting a QB #1 (for what it's worth this far out). I expect them to sign Cassel. But hey, they might give a pick for Mallett - maybe their 3rd rounder? Or even their fourth?

If that happens - doubt it, I expect the Pats to draft McCarron.

Interesting thought about HOU possibly reeling in Cassel.

If we select McCarron (and I wouldn't be unhappy, as long as other needs were addressed) he'd be the "new" Ryan Mallett. We can prepare for threads for the next 3-4 yrs about what we'll be able to get from McCarron

I think it is going to be a short list for them at #29 and unless a player they really like drops to them they will trade out. I think Donald's combine put him out of range for the Patriots but I can see them trading back 5-10 picks to try and get more players.

I really liked the thought of Donald at 29 too. Interesting that Dante Scarnecchia pointed to the DL and LBs at the areas of biggest needs last night when speaking at the Hall.

We are both against the thought of "selling out" for the present moment (and I think many are), but I wouldn't be opposed to making some switches that would utilize the money saved by moving on from certain players. What I don't really want to see is a bunch of nothing, although that's easy for me to say as a fan wanting some excitement and additional competition.

I am intrigued at the thought of adding D'Qwell Jackson. I'm not going to lie. My concerns are the cost being too much, and him possibly wanting to go to a place where he's guaranteed to be seeing more reps. In other words, the old "cost efficiency" thing

I would love Donald but i just don't think he will be there.

As for veteran free agents it is really hard to say imo because it is so hard to judge what they have left but more than anything i think that is what is going to make the difference for next season. They can have a good draft and reap the rewards from that but if they do not do a good job in free agency overall then they aren't going to win a Super Bowl.

D'Qwell Jackson could be a really good addition but it is going to come down price.

I don't see them "selling out" at any point but I can see them making stronger moves over the next few seasons to try and get over the hump, but they will be more like Rodney Harrison moves than 85 million for .............moves.

VERY interesting story from Rob Rang re the Arkansas Pro Day:

Taking advantage of an NFL rule which allows former players to either throw or catch passes at a Pro Day should the team need it, former Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett shed his New England Patriots uniform for a day and threw to a collection of Razorbacks attempting to join him in the NFL.

Mallett, a 6-foot-7, 225 pound gunslinger with a first round arm, is entering the final year of his rookie contract with the Patriots and is a source of frequent trade speculation. He certainly had an audience during Wednesday's Pro Day. According to the Razorbacks' official athletics website, representatives of all 32 teams attended the workout.

Mallett was certainly the big man on campus again as the four Razorbacks who were invited to the Combine -- center Travis Swanson, pass rusher Chris Smith, defensive tackle Robert Thomas and kicker Zach Hocker -- largely sat on their numbers from Indianapolis. Thomas improved his bench press numbers from 32 in Indianapolis to 37.

Mallett's performance was described as simply "ok" from a source who attended the workout. Mallett's time in the NFL has not translated into a better build. He remains gangly and looked "weak physically." Despite his less-than-ideal build, Mallett remains a talented thrower. His most impressive passes on the day, according to the source, were deep outs and go routes -- two of the more valued throws in today's NFL.

VERY interesting. Mallett is obviously interested in increasing his visibility for teams interested in a potential starting QB. And I doubt that he did this without the team's blessing. It's a quick way to get him some exposure.

You're a team picking at 33-40 and you need a QB. Your options are (a) possibly Jimmy Garoppolo, (b) Zach Mettenberger coming of an ACL injury, (c) AJ McCarron, (d) a healthy 25 year old Ryan Mallett with a big arm and 3 years of NFL experience. If you think Mallett really has a "first round arm" and can throw the entire route tree, he's got to get some consideration.

I’m amazed that any NFL level coach/scout would be concerned with “Malletts build”, why even waste a thought on that? It’s not bodybuilding. It really makes me wonder what front office staffs actually think of when evaluating a player.

What is even more amazing is that Mallett thinks he needs a pro-day.

After all, isn't he worth a 2nd with his three years of quality NFL experience?

Matt Cassel - Minnesota Vikings - 2014 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora "anticipate(s)" that the Texans will sign free agent Matt Cassel.

The dots connect, as new Texans coach Bill O'Brien was on New England's staff during Cassel's "breakout" 2008 season, and Houston could use a veteran bridge QB if it's to draft Blake Bortles, as expected. Bortles isn't ready to start in the NFL. Cassel already has a general understanding of O'Brien's offense. Mar 5 - 10:47 PM

I think he does it for fun as much as anything else, I know for sure this is at least the second time he's done it and I think it's more than that. The poor guy hasn't played in a game for 3 years other than preseason and a few snaps here or there regular season garbage time, this is a chance to throw the ball around a bit.

Don't forget, some of them wondered whether being a ginger somehow impeded QB play.

I think it shows effort and for a player that had character concerns entering the draft it shows humbleness and maturity. I see it as a positive, by no means a negative.

Reportedly Belichick wants a second round pick for him, if that is true I would trust Bill’s judgment.

So we're calling Mallet an experienced NFL quarterback now? Did I sleep through a season where he gained this experience?

He's a rookie with a big arm, just like he was 3 years ago. Until he sees the field and has NFL defensive ends, tackles, and linebackers trying to rip his head off in a meaningful game, he's just a rookie and a big arm.

BB "wants" a second for him because it keeps other teams away and he still have Mallet for free for another season before he's forced to add another body behind Brady.

Honestly, we'll probably carry 3 QB's this season unless Mallet is some ultra loyal guy completely fine with sitting behind Brady for minimal amounts of cash and signs an extension this off season.

Nobody is trading a 2nd round pick for Mallet for one year.
