I was just wondering what the new (next year) draft rules would have done for the Pats draft if they were effective today....
As of now the Pats have picks:
23, 34 (KC), 47 (SD), 58, 89, 97, 124, 170, 199, 207, 234
If they had changed the rules this year the picks would have been:
20, 34 (KC), 52 (SD), 57, 84, 97, 120, 170, 193, 207, 229
The way I read it is picks 1-20 will reamin the same as they are now (with teams with alike records rotating their picks in rounds 2-7), and picks 21-32 will not alternate (as they do now for teams with like records) so whatever slot you end up with in round #1 (again only for picks 21-32) is the slot that you have for all seven rounds. If you used this years results, only Miami and Atlanta (both 11-6, both lost in the Wildcard round) and Carolina traded to Philly) and the Giants (both 12-4, lost in the Division round) would be eligible to rotate picks.
Incredibly 4 teams that had a worst record than the Pats made the playoffs!
What this years first round would look like under the 2010 rules:

1 Detroit 0-16 0.551
2 St. Louis 2-14 0.529
3 Kansas City 2-14 0.537
