Interesting piece from the National Football Post today on a pending Supreme Court decision involving the NFL: American Needle Co. vs. NFL.

The case has to do with an antitrust suit filed against the NFL by a former apparel licensee which is accusing the NFL of acting as a monopoly in awarding an exclusive rights deal to Reebok. The appeals court ruled that the NFL was a single entity, not a collection of 32 teams, and that therefore there was no "collusion" or conspiracy. The outcome of the case (not just who wins but how broadly the Supreme Court words the decision) could affect the upcoming CBA negotiations. A broad win for the NFL would undermine the NFLPA's ability to decertify and sue the NFL for antitrust violations, as was done in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
