At first he was a top ten pick in many mock drafts, now some mocks don't even have him in the first round. I've heard very little talk of him from this forum, do you think he can not play in the 3-4? If he is there at 21 would you take him??

Haven't we discussed this one quite a bit already on other threads?

My take - at 6' 1 1/2" and 256# he's a nice undersized 4-3 DE like Dwight Freeney (but without Freeney's elite speed and unreal 1st step) who may excel in the right system but will struggle at DE in the wrong system because he's too small. He seems too much of a forward-moving player and a pure pass rusher to me to be a good fit at 3-4 OLB, especially for the Pats, who value more length and ability to play the run and play in space than Brown has shown.

He's a great college player. He has terrific pass rushing moves and a nice motor. But I question how well he will do in the pros. Best case would be to go to Indy or TB as a 4-3 DE. Worst case would be to go to the Pats as a 3-4 OLB, or to a 4-3 team that values big run-stuffing DEs. I would clearly take Connor Barwin, Robert Ayers, Aaron Maybin, Larry English and Brian Orapko (in that order) above him as 3-4 OLB conversion projects.

He's short by 3-4 LB standards but I wouldn't call him undersized. He is 256 after all. really like this kid as a pass rusher, probably one of the very best in this draft. The thing is which many have mentioned. Can he cover TE's RB's and WR's in space like the Patriot LB's are asked to do every game?

You know what? I'm not going to pretend I know Brown and what kind of skills he is capable of acquiring with good coaching. In his system at Florida State he wasn't asked to cover. It was pretty much go get the QB which isn't a bad thing. Curry is kind of labeled as guy who can't get to the QB only becaused he wasn't asked to get sacks. I wouldn't be shocked if the Pat's knabbed him at 23. It all depends if BB thinks he could coach him into a Pat's LB.

I agree that he isn't the perfect 3-4 OLB. However, I would not pass at 23.

He's a hell of a pass rusher.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I don't know how this could be determined in a pro day workout.
3/24 Update: Brown continues to move up draft boards. In fact, he could be a top five selection come April. Brown's versatility is a big part of his rising stock. Brown's Pro Day pretty much went as expected as far as the numbers are concerned, but he did show that he can play on the line or as an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. That means every team in the NFL could use his services.

I think he's the 3rd best player in the draft from a pats perspective after Monroe and Jason Smith. Unbelievable burst, nice moves, good motor/intagibles, and his lack of height is somewht offset by his long arms. I watched his youtube highlights and he made a couple nice plays on screens and swing passes, which is some of the skills he'll need at 3-4 olb. He reminds me of DeMarcus Ware/Dwigh Freeney. If he is there at 23, i pray BB picks him.

Lombardi puts him as strictly a 4-3 DE. He's too stiff to play OLB in a 3-4.

I don't see Brown as a fit for the Pats 3-4. Would rather have Barwin or English at 23.

Gosselin has him as the 53rd best player in the draft.
