The argument for starting Maye has been that he would learn better being in the field than on the bench. So it seems a fair question to ask what he learned today. Was it that he can’t be careless with the ball? Was it that the O line is inconsistent at best? How did playing today accelerate his learning to become the QB of the future for the Patriots?

Among other things, I'd imagine today he learnt more than a little about how hazardous his chosen profession can be to his physical well being

He has a full game of NFL game speed against a top notch defense to take in. He now knows what it feels like, the internal clock will start to get calibrated and he will have another week of practice with the first team WRs to build some rapport and get the timing down. Weekly you will see improvements and in some cases drastically so.

I think his career arc has a chance to be really, really good.

He learned today that he’s an ok rookie in the NFL. Touchdowns we haven’t seen in weeks and OMG yardage? Quick, bench him!!! The whole narrative that he’s not ready was just proven wrong. Jalopy would have had 1/6 of his yardage. Yea turnovers. That goes with the undisciplined play we have seen see for what 3 weeks? I’m so fckn happy that I saw over 100 yards of O today. Good things are coming.

As someone who believed that they shouldn't rush him until he is ready, I think you can learn a lot playing the game and get used to the NFL speed and defenses. My only concern was that if they put him out too soon, it could be counter productive. But at least for today, he showed he was far enough along to not have those concerns.

He learned that NFL defenses have structure and that if you break them down a little bit, receivers will get open for big plays.

Don't force throws.

Move through your progressions and you have the arm strength to get the ball into tight openings.

Lastly, never ever hold the ball too long. 3 seconds and the ball needs to come out.

He gained playing experience. He was not careless with the ball.
Every snap he plays builds his level of experience.

If he was going to get killed, it was today against that D. He will learn more and more how to protect himself better as the weeks go on. Caleb Williams got destroyed by this same defense.
