Also, if we're picking around 15 and Maualuga falls to us are you gonna pick someone else based on having Gary Guyton? A Maualuga/Mayo tandem could be one of the fastest and most athletic middle linebacker pairings in recent history. The speed of your defense is determined by the speed of your MIKE.
Both Mayo and Guyton run a 4.5ish 40. In fact Guyton had one of the fastest 40 times of any linebacker in the draft period. I understand the Maualuga hype, as the guy looks like a beast at times. But unless Guyton falls flat on his face, and he has been showing improvement every week, I believe that pass rushing is a more critical need for this team.
I also think a move up anywhere in the 10-19 range is fine as far as salary goes. Mayo is not making a large enough sum to affect our cap a great deal. I think the same will hold true for those draft slots next year unless something weird happens with the rookie wage scale.
