What’s our plan at Wide Receiver?

Trade up for Hunter.

Sign someone like Lockett to compete with Pop for WRs 2 and 3.

That would be my plan.

im still holding out hope for Aiyuk or Higgins. probably fools hope, but thats my hope. the way i see it most likely unfolding is Will Campbell in 1st round of draft, WR in 2nd and another veteran WR signing.
Although unlikely, a trade with the Bengals is not impossible. Then we'd still have to address the position at some point in at least the 2nd Round of the draft, perhaps the 3rd Round depending upon who's off/on the board.

Hunter is still a possibility. If hes there thats a better get than $30m and a pick for metcalf or tee.

If hes not there i trade down to around 6-9. Use that capital gained plus 38 to get in range for golden or egbuka. If that plan doesn’t work you can try sending next years 3rd for higgins once the poo hits the fan in cincy.

We spent on defense because thats where the good buys were, wr and ot are pretty sketchy and Godwin who we did like turned down a ton of money from us apparently.

My plan would be to:

- Get Evan Engram here. At minimum...he can be a good target for Maye.

- Sign Kupp after he is released....

- Draft a WR with our second, third, or 2nd third round draft pick after taking BPA/OT.

- Trade Bourne to clear a WR log jam (the Niners might want him back).

- Give JaLynn Polk a swift kick in the arse.

- Coach up Javon Baker.

- Let Pop be Pop.

- Let Mack Hollins dazzle us with game day outfits!

We’ve thrown massive amounts of money at star defensive talent already in FA. Our defense should be strong next year, very excited about that.

On offense, we just signed a very reliable starting RT.

Now…the wide receiver position. What is this front office going to do to solve this WR curse?

Higgins is franchised, we already missed the boat on a couple of big names who were available.

Our franchise QB needs weapons. We cannot rely on him to put up pro bowl numbers with JAGs and castoffs like Tom Brady did at various times.

We have a whole slew of number 3-4 WRs including the new addition of class clown Mack Hollins.

Most of this forum seems dead set on drafting a LT at 4 overall, even though there is no one talented enough in the draft that is worthy of that pick.

So we go WR when? In Round 2 where we’ve been the epitome of anemic ?

It’s not fair to Maye to expect huge development without investing in a high quality receiver. I hope the patriots have a plan
Curran mentioned today on his weekly WEEI appearance that something is in the works to getting that WR. Who? Who knows. I tend to agree that without elite or borderline elite WRs it's hard for Drake to reach his potential. What can help Drake is the offense being fluid, converting 3rd downs, utilizing the RBs in the passing game. The fluidity in the offense would immensely help Drake to Ascend.. but to your point we need a play maker for him.

Hunter or Higgins in the draft. They arent sure things but its miles better than what we have.
They could still explore the trade market.
Also, i firmly believe that if pass protection increases, everything will come into place and all WR will be better.

Between renting free agents and the draft and trades we can fill every one of those with average or better players.
It’s not about 22 all pros.

Sign Kupp, Cooper or Diggs or 2 of them
Trade down and take LT in the first and WR with the picks you gain.
Draft a FS in the 2nd (or sign Reid)
Sign one of the many guards
Sign a veteran pas rusher to play opposite Landry on passing downs when white moves inside.

All of that can easily be done.
Maybe semantics but all 3 of those WRs are old/injured/washed. Don't consider any of them a real "fix" at WR. I don't count on draft picks as "fixing" things because batting 1000 on drafting is unrealistic so some guys will bust. I don't see any "fixes" left on the edge by my evaluations. Guard and Reid at safety (though maybe better as SS) are the only guys from that list I'd view as "fixing" a position.

But yeah, they can sign some guys at WR/edge/OT and have respectable talent on paper. I just don't think it'd be "fixed".

We need an IMPACT Third Down RB like Sweet feet James White.

We have him twin. Gibson.. I'm telling you.. he will thrive under Josh.. sweet feet was 5"8.. gibby is 6"2.. AVP didn't know how to call plays for him.
Oh sorry twin forgot about Gibby.

We have one.
Hey.. wait.. OTAs started already?

Again, the bar isn’t 22 all pros, it’s a team that contends.
Putting a solid player in place of a liability is how you do that.

By your standard no team in the NFL is fixed.

They entered this offseason with:

the worst WR room in the NFL
0 starting caliber OTs
only 2 starting caliber interior OL for 3 spots (Onwenu & Strange)
only 1 NFL caliber DT and that guy is recovering from blood clots
0 starting caliber edge rushers unless Keion White learns how to contain the QB
one of the worst LB position groups in the NFL
no #2 CB, no coverage FS

Add it all out and they probably needed:

2 starting WRs
2 starting OTs
1 IOL starter
2 starting EDGE defenders
1 starting DT
1 starting CB
1 starting FS
1-2 starting LBs

It's very hard to add 11-12 solid pieces in one offseason. Some of that likely goes unaddressed. In the game of musical chairs, I suspect a true #1 WR might be one of those unaddressed spots.
they have addressed many of these needs before day 2 of free agency. It’s very hard to get a true #1 receiver. Really need to draft and develop well. Otherwise you need to sacrifice a lot to get one via free agency or trade.

Right now it's Hollins as the split end, Boutte as the flanker, and Douglas as the slot. No true "WR1". Behind them is Bourne, Polk, and Baker in that order. If the Pats bring in another WR as a starter and actual WR1, I think that puts Hollins and Boutte to compete for the WR2 role, and then one of Bourne/Polk/Baker would be on the chopping block.

My prediction: Aiyuk and Kupp.

Aiyuk something of a diva, but that apparently comes with the territory. I really don't see him staying put at the 49ers, so it's just a question of price - 49ers likely need to eat some of his contract given his injury and immaturity.

Aiyuk, who predictably got off to a slow start before suffering a season-ending knee injury in mid-October, serves as a classic case of buyer’s remorse; as my colleague Dianna Russini and I reported last week, the 49ers are open to trading him this offseason.

Kupp over the hill a bit, but very solid and provides good leadership.
