The team did what they needed to do: lose and lose big.

The loss clinches a top 5 pick which could go as high as an unlikely first.

AND the thumping should make it more likely that the entire defensive staff will be gone, plus just perhaps Mayo. In any case, Jonathan will need to take a hard look in the next few weeks when coaches are hired and fired.
=======
For the patriots, the next couple of months is all about making decisions about the 2025 front office and 2025 coaching staff.

Why would only the defensive staff be gone?

The line of thinking probably goes like this: we've already heard they are keeping Mayo and you might not want to install a new offense in the second season of a young QB. So Covington is the spot you can make a change.

Vegas has a very winnable game tomorrow at NO, so we could walk out of this weekend with a top 4 pick locked up.

jville plays tenn so one of those two will have 4 wins which should help us as well.

I am not sure this is correct. If everyone loses and the Jags win, and we win next week, we would be tied with the Jags for #5. I think we could still lose the SOS tiebreaker to the Jags and fall to #6, but maybe I am wrong.

Raiders, Giants, and Browns all have winnable games. Jags play the Titans so one of those two has to win. Cheer for the Giants against the Colts.

Youre correct, we could lose the sos to jax and end up behind them. Im thinking it wont happen because ive been ive been checking tankathon for weeks now and while its gotten closer (.466 to .475 currently) they haven’t moved that much closer to us over a span of many weeks iirc but you’re right in the sense that its not completely locked up and it could be a problem with some bad luck.

Giants-colts is kind of a win win for us because giants winning obviously would be great, but if indy wins that still helps us a little vs jax in the sos race since they played indy twice and we only played them once.

Tua is doubtful tomorrow so that could be enourmous if cle gets their 4th win plus miami losing lowers our sos and it wont lower jax’s since they played both mia and cle.

Raiders win like you said would help with them getting win #4, and it will also raise jax’s sos so double victory there.

Lions over sf and philly over dallas would raise jax’s sos. Unfortunately hurts is out. Lions over sf also lowers ours so double win there.

So we are going to saddle Maye with a crappy HC and OC for another year because they don’t want to hire better people? That’s dumb.

I'm not saying it's what I want just that it could happen and that's one explanation.

I've wrestled with the idea of firing Mayo and several weeks ago I declared if he shows us almost anything we should keep him. My bar was so low and he did not meet it so I'm not trying to defend him anymore just recognizing it's still possible.

Giants are probably playing "I should have been playing 50% Lock", so they'll lose.

He sucks like leaf and Rosen, he'll collect a check and move along

Jaguars 3-12 face the Titans 3-12

Is there a scenario where we can win next week and still possibly get the top pick?

Not unless the Gints win their next two games.

Yes, but very unlikely. Only if each of the teams below do the following:

NYG: Wins against both IND, PHI
LV: Win against either NO or LAC
JAX: Win against either TEN or IND
TEN: Win against either JAX or HOU
CLE: Win against either MIA, BAL
