Wes Welker signs with Denver Broncos

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker to Broncos

I'll willing to bet that the Pats were not offering more than 1 yr, which was likely the sticking point. At 6 or 7 mill per year, its a freakin' joke that they would not sign him. I'm sick to my stomach.

Complete and utter miscalculation by the pats, especially given Ahern, gronk, and amendola's injury history.

The chances that we will reproduce Welker's production for 6m a year are slim to none. This sucks.

I watch all kind of sports... I really can't name one transfer/trade/free agency mistake this big. I'm honestly lost for words. I want to hear a reason and I want to hear it NOW. We want to keep him? Bull**** I would even go as it being disrespectful if they didn't match that offer. Best franchise in the league? Are you having a laugh?

I prefer patience, but if you want to call it homerism, so be it.

Nothing "patience" about it: it's pure unthinking homerism. I'd expect it from Rob, but I'm stunned that you'd take that position.

Re: Schefter: Wes Welker to Broncos

OK I was fine with this until I saw those numbers. Just makes ZERO sense if it's for $12. Even if it's all guaranteed. THEY JUST PAID HIM $9M GUARANTEED LAST YEAR BUT CAN'T PAY 6M OVER THE NEXT 2? Zero sense. No defending it, and I was with the I'm fine with this crowd all the way

it doesn't make sense........unless welker decided he's outta here

Re: Per Schefter: Welker to Broncos

Schefter is saying 2 years, 12 million which is mind-bogglingly cheap for the most productive WR the last 5 years.

Wasn't the Pats offer last year offering him more guaranteed money than that over the first two/three years.

Re: Re: Wes Welker signs with Denver Broncos

Is this some kind of sick joke? I'm honestly physically feeling sick. What the **** just happened. Am I dreaming?

Im with you and i ******* hate this part of being a fan. How how how?

Adam Schefter ?@AdamSchefter
Patriots began pursuing Rams free-agent WR Danny Amendola during the three-day negotiating window last weekend.

I believe last year's offer was 2 years, 16m fully guaranteed.

So waiting for more information and to see what the team does in response is unthinking homerism?

OK.

Amendola is essentially a pat.

I expect a Donovan mcnabb eagles draft reception to him from all of us, this is pathetic...

I can... every transfer involving the Oakland Raiders... starting with the Palmer trade.

I thought they should have re-upped with Welker. But I am also going to wait till I see what happens before I got all ape-**** like people are right now.

Something about this stinks. Either the Money he is getting isn't whats being reported or Welker told the Pats to Kick rocks and refused thier offer after all of the back and forth. I refuse to believe that they didnt offer him at least the same deal or even more than the Broncos. The Patriots can be cheap but they aren't that damn cheap.

Re: $6 million a year for two years!

They laughed when I said he would never see more than $5M/year from the Pats...

I wonder why they franchised him last year for 9.5 Million. Based on the contract from Denver we could have had him for 2 yr 12 or 3 yr 17.

Like most here, I'm very confused. I thought the Patriots were being vilified for having so terribly insulted Wes by offering him 2 years at something like 8 million guaranteed per year before they ended up Tagging him.

Welker's status from both perspectives - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Mike Reiss' in his article said:
Patriots’ viewpoint: The club has made an offer to Welker that it feels reflects his market value, although details of it are not known. Last year, the Patriots were offering a two-year, $16 million deal that was fully guaranteed, according to the Boston Globe. In 2012, the club paid Welker a one-year salary of $9.5 million on the franchise tag. This year, with Welker set to turn 32, the Patriots elected to forgo paying him $11.4 million on a one-year franchise tag. So it seems fair to project that whatever the Patriots are offering is somewhere in the $7.5-9.5 million range per year, depending on the length of the deal and guarantees. At a time when the market is described as “soft” by some in the NFL, with some free agents receiving reduced offers from what they were presented last year, you could envision the Patriots putting the reported two-year, fully guaranteed $16 million deal back on the table for Welker with the thinking that it remains a solid compromise. If the Patriots really want Welker, as owner Robert Kraft said Monday, anything lower than that would be a strange way of showing it.

Re: $6 million a year for two years!

Hopefully this team has a solid move on the way. Because, from where I'm sitting as of this moment, this is a HUUUGE **** up by the front office.
