We're on to Kansas City

I thought that Bortles was extremely accurate - when he wsn't under pressure.

Bortles is Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson - if he's confident he's pretty damn good and will string together a bunch of great throws over the course of a game.

Get him one shred of doubt or put a good lick on him, especially early in the contest before he's "feeling it" and he's missing the target by yards.

There is zero chance Bill/Flores will blitz Mahomes the whole game. Maybe a few timed blitzes in the second half, but they will play contain a lot, and Mahomes will more than likely pick apart our secondary. We'll be lucky to get 1 sack against this guy. The chiefs play a speed game and the pats don't have to speed to match on defense. I do expect our defense to be a little bit more successful against KC than KC's defense against Brady.

And Blitzing is the only way they are going to be able bring effective pressure against the Chiefs. Brady and the Offense playing close to the best gives us a chance. The D can hope for miscues from KC.

How blitzing works: leave potential gaps for their speed (your words not mine) to take advantage of as defenses have to give up something (coverage) to get something (pressure through blitzing - which by definition is sending more rushers than your base DL).

They may have enough tape now to know what Mahomes' typical early reads are and make him hold the ball a half a second longer early in the contest.

They may have some twists, stunts, or other "game within a game" DL schema to employ that have shown success by other teams the Chiefs have played.

Someone else already posited the fact that disguised combo coverage led to Mahomes' INTs last week. The defense may have gelled enough now to employ such strategy.

So it's not the "only" way - its the way you THINK will work.

On the surface it is hard to feel great about the KC game. You have a 5-0 team coming in off of a dominant victory over what was considered the 2nd best team in the AFC. They have the best offense in the league with playmakers at every level. And while their defense wouldn't be considered a "dominant one", they have far more "playmakers" than the Pats do on that unit. We, on the other hand are 3-2 team with zero playmakers on defense and an improved offense, but not one that has shown the consistency to win a shootout with the "best offense in the league".

But scrape the surface and I start to feel a better. Not a lot better, but some. First playing on the road is always tough. Playing on the road in Foxboro is even tougher. Second the Pats offense is getting better each week, and now that the major pieces are coming into focus. So the chances the Pats CAN compete in an offensive shootout are looking better. This offense, playing at home, is poised to put up a lot of points against anyone's D

On Defense this will be a frustrating game for the fans of "aggressive football". The Pats are NOT going to blitz much, if at all. And when it happens it will be late and up the middle. No, what we saw last week vs Luck will be what we see vs Mahones, and perhaps more so. For the Pats to have ANY success against KC it will require a great job vs the run, and great reads of the patterns by the secondary. 3 punts, 3 FG's, 2 TD's and one turnover would be a fantastic result for this D. Actually anything from 28-32 will give the Pats a decent shot at winning this game

It will be interesting to see how KC tries to stop the Pats offense. Some teams have had some luck in doubling Gronk and Edelman and going tight man on the rest. That strategy could create some big openings for White and Gordon.

What I'm hoping for is a competitive game with no injuries. A loss would hurt, but would certainly be sustainable in the long term. At this point of the season this looks like a 12-4/11-5 kind of team, but that perception could change as we move on.

If there is one "must" factor for this game it is this. If we want to have any chance at home field for the AFCCG, then we "must" win this game. Just sayin'

The problem with Mahomes and the Queefs is that if he diagnoses it pre-snap, they’ll go for huge gains. Peep the way they roasted the Jags when they blitzed on Sunday. What I expect Bill and Flores to do is disguise it and act like they’re going to bring the house pre-snap before they drop. Should hopefully result in at least one INT.

This would also be a great game for the team to quit toying with the idea of DMac as a box safety and play him back into a more traditional FS role. Against all that speed on the perimeter, they could use his range.

Mahomes scrambles out of the pocket and still makes the throw. One game, He was scrambling left and changed the ball from his right hand to his left and still completed a pass for a 1st down. He keeps coming up with the winning hand.

Think Big Ben who just when you think you have him trapped, but he gets away only worse.

Agree. And more Chung on Kelce.

He’s God. The mulatto Jesus on the football field. The greatest thing to ever grace the gridiron in ANY era. The rest of the league has no hope... nay... no PRAYER of stopping this titan of the pigskin. As a matter of fact, the rest of the league may as well forfeit. Abandon hope all ye who enter here.

They could probably twist pretzels into Mahomes’ head by playing DMac in the box and dropping him after the ball is snapped.

KC playing JAX seemed to have taken a physical toll on them, which should bode well for us.

He is the Chiefs answer at QB after all these years.

They always bring in FA QBs and never draft and develop a good one until now.

He’s been good but he’s also essentially a rookie with 5 games of tape playing on a loaded offense whose been lucky that more than 2 balls haven’t been intercepted. We’ve seen these types of guys throughout NFL history. The question is: will he get better once DCs start taking away what he’s comfortable with? That’ll be the ultimate test of how good he is.

He SWITCHED HANDS AND THREW LEFT-HANDED!

That has NEVER EVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NFL!
