Julian Edelman doesn't tend to get the credit and respect he deserves around the league, but one former player took notice in a recent ESPN segment, putting him ahead of some notable names which created some controversy.

I have high hopes for the kid that he can be Vrabel 2.0, but this is nonsense. He hasn't even taken a professional snap yet. You might, and hopefully will be, right... but there's no way you can know that.

Wise has been a pretty solid pro. Compared with most 4th rounders, he's been stellar. I'd be satisfied with a similar career arc from Winovich, sans injuries, although I think Chase has a lot more burst off the snap than Deatrich. I'll quote from one of my other posts to show a few plays I really liked from Chase. GIF first, then my commentary on these three plays below.

Let's go through why I like Chase. He's consistently the first DL moving at the snap, which gives him a split second of advantage over his teammates.

First play: I like that he keeps his pad level low, delivers a strong, accurate strike -- flat back, elbows in -- and then uses the OT's momentum against him by pulling on his jersey and tearing past the block. This is a mini variation of a bull-snatch, but it shows a good understanding of balance and momentum. I don't care that he didn't have any impact on the play; I simply want to review technique.

Second play: Again, notice that he's a step farther upfield than anyone else on the DL. The OT doesn't use a traditional vertical set, but if this is supposed to be a jump set, he was extremely lazy with his positioning. Chase immediately takes advantage of the poor hip angle and shoots inside of the block. Easy, right?

BUT WAIT! Before Chase makes this moves, notice that he extends his inside arm to lock the tackle's shoulder in place, and only after he ensures that he can maintain space does he rip through with the outside arm. A less seasoned pass rusher may have just taken a direct path to the quarterback, leaving himself exposed to the tackle's punch and recovery to close off the inside path into the pocket. Chase is really advanced with understanding spacing, positioning, and hand fighting.

Third play: Ignore that the secondary busted the coverage and let a crosser run free. Notice how quickly Chase accelerates to the quarterback. I'm not really concerned about how these plays turned out, but only about how well Chase succeeded within his scheme. He does everything that's asked of him, and he excels at getting upfield.

    Fan favorite incoming?

After reviewing every clip of him I could find, I can officially say I like him. He has an unreal motor and dips his shoulder pretty well on speed rushes. What I didn't like was how he played the option. He was so bad at playing the option that it seemed like it would be better if he just committed to the qb or rb before the snap and just stuck to it no matter who had the ball.

Interesting but I'm not worried because that sounds like a coaching thing. If he doesn't play stuff the way our coaching staff demands he'll be wearing another team's jersey before too long.

All of a sudden, LB is a strength for 2019. even if Roberts is traded before the last cut.
VanNoy, Winovich, Hightower, Bentley, Roberts, with King as a ST/LB

You can forgive mgteich becahse Winovich's technique looks a lot like a linebacker's.

A lot of edge players look a little bit like either. Many 34 OLBs are just standing up DEs 98% of the time. I’m talking about what he will be in our defense.

They had him do both at the combine and he was not prepped to do the DL stuff but they asked him the day of.

Especially given the fact that there will be some new coaches, I suspect that there will be lots of experimenting with the roles of our DE's and OLB's throughout camp, the preseason and at least through the first 4 games.

This is why you let Trey Flowers walk.

Winovich will be a nuisance much like Flowers was only way cheaper. I really like this guy.

But Bennett is of course his actual replacement which I’m confident he’ll be an upgrade for at least one year and way cheaper.

Pass rush will be better than last year.
