Ken I firmly believe that the talent on this offensive line is going to be one of the best if not the best overall squad in Patriots history,I think 2 or 3 of these starters especially Thuney and Winn could have pro bowl years if healthy and this will help Newton big time

If we were smart we'd have Lamar (top 5 inside/outside the pocket QB) and his league leading passing TDs.

We got a recent former NFL MVP for bare minimum on an incentive-laden deal..

This is genius. Anyone who thinks otherwise is reacting off of pure emotion.

Thanks for digging out my take. I think I am fine without a redo.

As I said weeks before, going incentive heavy to make yourself value would be the way.

With all the L's you've been taking lately when it comes to many topics I can understand why you're testy when you get called out for the things you've said in the past.

To me the obvious way it will play out is either Newton/Stidham with Hoyer released or Stidham/Hoyer with Newton released.

I don't think Cam will stay on the roster as a backup mostly for pragmatic reasons (i.e. roster incentives) but from everything that has been said this offseason it also doesn't seem to be something he would be particularly into.

It will be on Newton to show he is physically healthy and mentally able to run whatever McDaniels and Fisch are putting together. If he can do that then he is clearly the best QB on the roster given his experience and talent.

That might be unfair towards Stidham who had no chance to build that experience yet but that is the way it goes in professional sports.

Low risk, possible high reward on this signing.. Newton has never been a fave of mine, but what is not to like about this low risk signing??..

At best he will be the opening day QB but I think Hoyer should be looking over his shoulder more than Stidham..

Unfortunately, we will not be able to observe how he looks at TC, otoh still not convinced there will even be a season..

I half agree, but there are unanswered questions that are not pure emotion. BB likes a bargain but they have not all worked out - Albert Haynesworth.

    1. Is he healthy? Brady had a lot of cleanup surgeries, but as long as Brady had his right arm he was good to go (he could never run anyway). Can Cam run and throw effectively? He has taken a lot of hits. Lamar Jackson was the MVP, but will he even be in the league in 10 years, a la RGIII?
    2. Will Cam work within the structure? Seems a bit flamboyant, but the Panthers were a no nonsense team, so maybe he adusts to the Patriot Way.
    3. Does he fit the system? I read he has experience in the Pats' offensive system, but is this exaggerated?

Cam is taking a "prove it" deal which is a great sign. It might be a good thing for Stidham to learn for 1 more year before being the starter. If Cam is sucessful, we are sucessful, and get a 3rd round comp pick.

There are a lot of things to like IF Cam is not at 75 or 80% of his ability due to the multiple shoulder and foot issues, accepts the discipline and can pick up the offensive system - those are not pure emotional concerns.

I will neither confirm nor deny that I wrote a post that included several photos of his most flamboyant post-game outfits and gave a thumbs down. IF I wrote that post, it was partly coming from the viewpoint a burned Newton fantasy football owner during two different seasons.

If my good friend Bill thinks that this is a good idea, the June 29th 2020 me thinks that this is awesome. Let's go!:thumbsup:

Not exaggerated. It may not have been what they most recently ran, I'm not sure on that, but they had used the EP system under Rivera. They switched Coordinators and not sure if that meant a new O or if the Coordinator adopted the system.
