I know it’s not the same situation, but now that two college teammate RBs went to Cleveland and the Pats, I do hope we come out with the one that has the better career.

I’m excited about this pick although I was hoping for the BC edge.

I like him but I don't love him. I like his acceleration but I wanted someone a little bigger. Caleb Johnson would've been my choice. Solid draft so far that is easy to see these guys contributing this year.

I agree with all the positives on this GREAT back. But no one’s mentioned his unselfish nature. Just like Will Campbell the Patriots have an ELITE athlete, with superb production in college, who’s going to be a great teammate and locker room presence.

I’m ecstatic about this pick.

Why can he not be an every down back? 5'10 is big enough. He just needs to add 10 pounds or so of muscle.
I am going off his past history of carries over the season. If he can do more great. Even if he can do 20 carries a game, he still wouldn't be my pick. To be worth this pick considering his inability to catch particularly well IMO he needs to be insanely good on the ground. Like practically Derrick Henry good. I have mentioned it before but for various reasons RBs who can't catch a lot and get big YPC constantly really limit their value.

IMO for an RB to have any really value there are a few metrics they need to pass... 6.67 Yards per touch. It is hard to hit that number unless you catch a lot as well as run over 5YPA. As for why that number. It has to do with getting 20 yards on average for 3 touches (staying relevant with variance per play as well as overcoming penalties which tend to happen on most drives.)

Catching is also about staying relevant in the game, period. You will sometimes face DLs that beat yours or Ds good against the run that you just can't run against on the per attempt basis you want. Do you want your 38th overall pick to just have no value some games? I don't. Which is why the damage they can do with the ball in the air is so important. Not to mention being able to get enough yards overall that have a big enough per play average to be relevant means a lot of touches.

Yeah, I thought they might go defense here as well (Ezeiruaku or Nic Scourton, for example) and then go either RB/WR or WR/RB with the next two picks.

Optimistic with what is going on with the new regime regardless.

Same size as Jamyr Gibbs
IMO he needs to be that good to be worth this pick. I'm not hopeful. Not cause he isn't talented, but because that is rare. IF he turns out to be that good he's worth the pick. But that that is how valuable a RB has to be to be worth the 38th pick. Some RBs can look good on a stat sheet, but you don't feel their effect on on the game. He IMO needs to have the same effect on the game as someone like Gibbs. Who has less of an effect than people believe honestly.

He had 2 drops the last 2 years and zero fumbles.

500 yards in the air is my standard starting point metric if you aren't doing that it is hard to say they are doing enough to really impact the game. That is want i want in a 2nd round running back along with being a great runner. If he can give us that, i will be singing a different tune. He didn't do it in college in any year. Which concerns me. If he does it with us i will be happy.

You make me laugh.

10.94 100m in high school... as a sophomore... You know I like that.

Would not have been my pick. First off, he can't catch well, which is something i hammer home about on RBs. Secondly he isn't the kind of player who runs more than 12 times a game. I just don't believe considering those factors he has enough impact. That being said, i think he will be a good player. but not the one i would have picked at that spot.
What’s the issue with his receiving? I’m not familiar with him but saw this in the ESPN pre-draft analysis:

“He separates and has the tools to continue to develop as a route runner. He's a good open field runner who is dangerous after the catch.”

I did see this from Bleacher Report, but from all the reports about how dangerous he is in the open field it seems this isn’t a knock, just a means to get the ball in his hands:

“In the passing game, he is functional at best. He should not be viewed as a high-end and creative receiving option. He will run shallow and underneath routes but does not offer much further down the field outside of a wheel/rail route.”

But that's a completely different argument to what you originally said.

With only 3 RBs on the roster, I knew the Pats would be adding at least one in this draft. Somewhat surprised they got Henderson, but happy with the pick.. I figure he'll push Stevenson for snaps as the primary back by the end of the season and could supplant Stevenson by the start of 2026.

Stevenson might lose starting with his fumbles

Henderson had just one fumble in more than 650 career touches in college...
Ball security is important along with his obvious RB skillset
