DRAFT Welcome Caleb Lomu OT Utah

I found this interesting:

I found this interesting:

The writer mentions Imananchor's lack of experience as a sign of possible further upside; but doesn't mention that same lack of experience includes Zero meaningful snaps at Left Tackle, a more difficult switch from RT than a LT to RT one is... Kinda why I wasn't that interested in him at 31: no real position versatility while learning behind Moses.

Lack of core strength will keep him from beating out WC at LT. But I wouldn’t bet against him in 2027 as the team’s starting LT.

People think Campbell has been sitting on his ass not getting stronger and better. Lomu is the RT for the future, and might win the job out of camp this season. People felt he would be a top 5 pick next season if he stayed in the draft but he didn't want to. Thats incredible value.

Ok.

This seems similar to the idea that Wallace would start at LT.

The idea that Wallace could start at LT was perpetuated by Elliot Wolf... I think he was in damage control mode trying to silver-lining a absolutely disastrous second and third round of that draft.

Wallace played on the other side of the line from Olu Fashanu (picked #11 in the 2024 NFL draft) and despite not really showing up on tape as an NFL talent... was reported to have positional flexibility by the Penn State coaches because he had played other positions in practice.

Lomu played LT for two years in college on the other side of the line from Spencer Fano. If you don't know who Spencer Fano is he was drafted 9th overall this year. He and his brother are on the Browns, they had 4 uncles who played in the NFL and a cousin. Basically you can't get much more of an NFL pedigree than Spencer Fano... And the Utah coaches watched him and Lomu play and decided the younger Lomu was the better fit to protect the quarterback's blindside.

That should really tell you all you need to know about Lomu. The coaches whose jobs were on the line at Utah wanted him in the most important position protecting the quarterback over the guy who was a surefire NFL offensive lineman.

Who thinks Campbell has not been working hard?

Anyone who thinks Lomu is a real possibly of beating him out in TC. It might happen, nobody knows what the future holds and I am betting Campbell is gonna be a much different player this year.

I agree that Campbell is going to stake a good step forward this season. I thought you had seen reports that he wasn't working hard, that's why I asked.i think Andrews was just saying that Lomu is a talented player and that the competition would benefit both of them.

Who thinks Campbell has not been working hard?
Campbell can work hard from the waist up. But his knee had to heal before he could start working on his base and footwork. I have no idea how long the injury set him back. Campbell might have had surgery and we don't know it.

The primary difference is that Lomu is a late 1st round talent and Wallace was a late 3rd or 4th round talent.

I have no reservations about Lomu being a starting NFL LT and a backup RT. Personally, I wouldn't take a future top LT or even LG and move him to RT. Luckily, we will two years of camp and practice to get the data to make that decision.

We don’t know what we have with Lomu right now. What I like is they didn’t just get a RT. We got a LT that can hopefully switch to RT for the near future. If he can play RT we have good young bookends. Also if Campbell gets injured we have a solid replacement. If he does not beat out Moses then if Moses gets injured we have a solid replacement there also. After 2 years we will know where the line positions fall.

I don't either, but I doubt he is dogging it in the offseason.
