He slid and when he got hit his feet and leg were in a weird position and they bent pretty bad

sliding headfirst signifies you are trying to gain yards, sliding legs first you are down the moment you start your slide which is giving yourself up.

two different things, hoyer tried for the first down instead of playing it safe and making it 2nd and 1
