Week 2 Pats @ Steelers pregame thread

Does the tight end need to chip the CB on that strip sack? Or is it Mac's job to pick that up? I would dial up one per quarter if I was Tomlin.

My take is that it was on Henry. From the replays I saw, he didn't even look in the direction of the defender.

Wasn't back spasms Gronk's problem for a while?
I think spasms were only specifically mentioned in 2018 when he missed the Bears game. It wasn’t seen as a major issue.

For some reason, I can tell you that I was in the Lucky Brand store at the outlet mall here when the tweets went out about how he didn’t make the trip with the team but that they wouldn’t rule out the possibility of flying him in Sunday morning if his back improved (it didn’t).

Still September and early, but we need this game. 0-2 in the conference with BAL and GB in the pipeline would be troublesome. Hope Mac is okay and comfortable enough to play.

Defense needs to get a turnover or two. Offense pound the rock and keep Mac clean.

But Gronk had multiple back surgeries by 2018 and he dealt with lingering pain in his back for most of his career especially by 2018.

Don’t see why we would be favourites next week. Steelers aren’t as good as they used to be, but they are well coached, playing in a tough building for opposing teams to win in, and have talent.
Trubiskey, Pickett, Rudoph,TJ WATT out. Need to stay away from Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Bailey Zappe? Or Brian Hoyer?
Or Mac Jones with a ton of pain killers
Brian Hoyer is capable of playing decent QB if he doesn't have brain f===ts. He has taken teams to playoffs, been a division leader. He just craps his pants when iit's crunch time, e.g. KC.

Defense did cause fumbles and nearly had an int. The ball just bounced wrong. Those things happen.

I like how you use the 1 time the Pats played him 4 years go when he was on a different team and ignore years of Pats/Steelers.... Last time the Pats played the Steelers they held them to 3 points but I guess you ain't gonna factor that in because it doesn't fit that doom and gloom narrative, right?
Keep Trubiskey in the pocket. In Chicago he almost brought them back running.

Last time the Pats beat the Steelers without Brady was in 1998. Time for Mac (hopefully) to make their fans hate him too. lol

I remember that game! 3 Rivers Stadium was literally falling apart during the game!

For sure, Bryant screwed up a gimme pick for DMac. We have the men to create turnovers, I'm just reinforcing the notion we need to capitalize against Pittsburgh. They have a subpar QB, and there will be turnovers to be had --- hopefully we're on the other side this time.

Really hard to discern the net effects of injuries in this one. Watt and Harris are definitely out vs. Jones being hobbled, but possibly playing with the pain. (I’ve had back spasms - I moved like an elderly man for weeks, but I didn’t have medical care/trainers,) Seems like the net effects might favor us, but we’ll have to see…

I blame Hunter Henry. The defender was on the outside of Henry. He should have either chipped the defender off the line or informed Brown that he was a free man rushing. The defender didn't disguise his blitz, but Henry never looked his way.
I get that. No communication between Henry and Brown. Henry could have chipped to delay the rush. Brown, however, doesn’t seem to have recognized there was an outside blitzed at all. He had L guard help on the guy he chose to block as I recall. Blame to go around on that play.

Coaches don't win games because they're "mad" or hate the other team. What are they going to do? Get fired up and shout the playcall into the headset louder?
There's always this...

Mac did not look either. Vintage Mark Sanchez right there.

How many times did we watch Brady scan the defense and size blocking schemes up?

The strip-sack was 100-percent on Trent Brown. This has been explained by: Matt Cassel, Christian Fauria, Adam Archuleta and again tonight by Ted Johnson, who both diagrammed the play and demonstrated what SHOULD have happened. Henry's assignment was running the route and he had no responsibility for chipping or picking up the blitz. Brown's eyes should've been left and he should have communicated to Ferentz and Andrews he'd be kicking out to pick up the free rusher.

Thanks but I think Mac has to see it too and stepping up would help Trent Brown. Not sure big Trent can get all the way outside to pick up a speedy outside rusher. If Mac steps up one or two steps it helps Trent's angle tremendously. Mac does not seem to have a lot of pocket presence including all the way back to the preseason where he ran backwards into sacks. He seems a bit allergic to shuffling forward in the pocket a bit while looking downfield. Brady does that so well.

It was Cassel 2008.
That is sadly the only time I've been to Gillette. It was raining sleet and it was sloppy football.

The Pats lost but it was fairly close.

What cost the game was STs. Matthew Slater fumbled a KR which turned into a TD for the Steelers and killed momentum.

I completely read the original post wrong as I thought it was the last time Steelers beat the Pats without Tom.

Anyways, I think had the Pats made the playoffs and faced Pittsburgh again, they'd give them a serious run for their money.
