NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Week 17: NFL Other Games

How did Daboli get into this?

Man if you’re going to pick nits with other folks at least make sure you’re not guilty of worse. Putting quotation marks around a minor paraphrase is minor league compared to your blooper there.
You're right. My mistake. But in my defense, I was hoping to use it to apply for a job covering football at a Boston newspaper.

They should just postpone everything 1 week, while having Bills/Bengals play Saturday or Sunday on ESPN.

It's not fair for both Buffalo and Cincy to lose their chance at the 1 seed and have it go to the Chiefs because of some 1 in a million fluke occurrence.

I suppose eliminating the 1st round BYE altogether is an interesting solution, although there's still a question of who would have home field advantage for certain matchups like Bills/Chiefs, Bengals/Chiefs AFCCG. Going off their head to head seems fair. Or if Bills/Bengals, since they didn't play each other.. coin flip or winning % against common opponents?

The NFL is doing everything but the easiest, and correct, thing because they’re afraid of 48-hour social media backlash.
100% spot on.

They have to realize what they do right now will set precedence for something like this when it happens in the future. If the Bills get the 2nd seed it isn’t the end of world.

It is to me as the Kansas City hater club President. This is me if that happens

Redoing it on Wk 18 makes the most sense. Doesn't make sense to try to salvage points from a game that was cancelled. What's the issue with continuing it to this week?

Week 18 is a different week. For example, we are seeing Sam Howell starting….possibly Kyle Trask….and some teams resting guys or putting guys on I/R.

I have Knox needing 22.1 points

unlikely to get 22 pts from Knox, but certainly not impossible.. you would definitely need 2 touchdowns

I was in 3 championship games. In one, I conceded being down 60+ with me having Mixon, Higgins, and Bass. In another, I won by a significant margin on Sunday night. In the 3rd, I was up 148-114 with the other guy having Burrow and Higgins…he was projected to score 147…but the site called it yesterday. So, not bad…

But I can see where it would royally F up a league. Personally, as a Commish…I would just split the prize and name co-champs if the projected stats would have made it a nail biter….

I hear you but they have to make a logical decision.

Imagine 30 years from now this happens and the next commissioner wants to know how the league handled it in thx past:

Commissioner: “ok, what did we do last time this happened”

Exec: “well sir, we added an 8th team in last time”

Commissioner: “what? Why the hell did we add another team into the playoffs?” Did both the NFC and AFC do this?”

Exec: “No sir, just the AFC”

Commissioner: “what the F? Why?”

Exec: “so the Chiefs didn’t get the number 1 seed.”

Commissioner: “so they changed the whole playoff format just for 1 side of the league because they didn’t want the Chiefs to get the number 1 seed, even though the Chiefs had nothing to do with the situation? Who’s the idiot who made these decisions!”

Exec: “Roger Goodell sir”

Commissioner: “ now it all makes sense “

The game should be cancelled or forfeited by Buffalo. Both teams chose not to finish the game on Monday or even wait a day to play on Tuesday. Why should the rest of the NFL have to suffer? Why is this the Chiefs problem? There is no good solution to this, the NFL just has to find the least controversial one. If they cancel, Buffalo still gets a 2 seed and the Bengals the 3 seed. If those teams are unhappy, they should flip a coin to see who gets the higher seed. Them not being able to get the 1 seed is tough luck.

Gotta agree with Mac here. While it’s not fair for the Bills, unfortunately for them it’s something that happened to them. It had nothing to do with Chiefs.

Right, but all it takes is one dude on Twitter to post, "Wait, so the Bills are being punished for not finishing a game where one of their teammates literally died on the field!?!" for the NFL to decide not to go that route.

The solution is pretty simple. Play the games they were scheduled to play. Pushing everything else 1 week back isn't something I'd imagine most teams or players would oppose. It's an extra BYE.

Except you are giving the winner of the NFC and AFC only 1 week to prepare for the SB, which they are not going to move. Oh, if the 1 seeds are KC and Philly, they going to get 3 weeks in between games…not an ideal situation at all.

Waiting to see what happens this weekend is the easiest, smartest, and correct thing. And that has nothing to do with the idiots in the media who already think they are experts in every field.

From Fakebook

All of the league's governing documents and policy manuals state that a suspended game (other than preseason) must be played to its conclusion. The commissioner can terminate a game, but only if it is completely clear of competitive issues, which is obviously not the case here. This game will have to be played in full. The question is when will that happen.
Seems like there's a lot of talk about the Commissioner canceling the game so it seems like they're gonna do it anyway.

What type of math or logic are you working with? 3 weeks in-between games? Not unless KC and Philly rest their starters which would be foolish since they need to win week 17 for the 1 seed.

SUN JAN 8th - all teams have the week off, except for BUFF-CIN
SUN JAN 15th - week 17 everyone plays their games
SUN JAN 22nd - first round of playoffs, KC and Philly would have a BYE if they're the 1 seed
SUN JAN 29th - the 1 seeds play their matchup

The easiest thing would be to have the game go in as a Bills loss and move on. The second easiest thing would be to cancel the week before Super Bowl week. Introducing an 8th team and/or taking away the bye from the #1 seed is moronic.
