NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Week 17: NFL Other Games

Just give me a tweet that he's conscious again. Even if he needs assistance to keep stuff running just tell me he's there.

yup they cancelled football for one weekend

The games weren't cancelled. They were postponed until week 17 of the season.

I think it kind of comes down to what happens to the player. If he passes away then it becomes a story about the NFL making the players play the day after they “watched someone die right in front of them”, or something similar. If the player at least stays in some sort of critical but not worsening condition for the next 12-18 hours then they’ll play. All about optics.

The games will go on. Not trying to be insensitive but it's reality
I don't even think it's insensitive. It's unfortunate for the players on the field tonight and very difficult to suddenly turn up and play at 100% but things should go on.

I think the toughest part is about replaying this game and the logistics of it. It is still harsh to make them play tomorrow, 24 hours is quite a short time to process this given it's such a serious incident but I don't see many options.

Any talk of cancelling the season is ridiculous and anything more than a 1 week delay to the games is over the top too. I could see the schedule being pushed a week out of respect if he dies and I think that is probably the right thing to do. If he's stable then I think things should go on as is.

I could see them postponing all games this week. But not the whole season.

In the end what matters is that he pulls through. As someone said earlier…a strong sense of melancholy is in the air
You gotta be pretty pumped about the Jags. I’m going to that game Saturday night. Bought nosebleeds today. If you’re there, head to the Clevelander Deck (or whatever they call it now) and look for a guy wearing a black Patriots hat.

I am not sure what the proper mourning time is. But they are not shutting down the season. Nor should they.
Many jobs will tell their people to mourn on personal time.

Couple of days ago a baggage handler was killed at Montgomery Airport when he was sucked into a running jet engine. Air travel didn’t shut down over it.

life goes on.

I didn't say they should - I was just saying that the idea of them even taking the field this weekend is a little crazy. Albeit, the situation will at least be different if he's O.K. Like everyone else, I'm still processing it.

As others have already mentioned or alluded to, tragedies like this are an everyday occurrence. And it sucks when it affects you personally. Those players were very justified in not wanting to play tonight.

Most jobs would allow employees to go home if a colleague died at work. How do you concentrate when something like that just happened? But the next day? It's back to work.

Of course this is magnified because it was on television, and we put our professional athletes on a pedestal. I have no problem if the NFL plays this game tomorrow. Those players will be grieving for their teammate while playing whether tomorrow or next week.

The only right thing to do is to cancel Buffalo's entire season and make the AFCE a 3 team division. It's just what's right.
Finally, a sensible take.

The mob going hard after Skip

they have a chance at the #1 seed and a bye if they win both games with KC losing their Wk18.
I know the standings, all I was saying was this is not quite right. Buffalo is only the #2 seed because KC played first this week.

Beat the Bengals and Pats and they're #1, regardless of what KC do. Just a shame for us that the Broncos couldn't deliver so it could've been settled tonight.

As I said, the point about the game being important stands. I don't see why either team would forfeit or cancel, they will find a time to play.

The media is at the hospital now. I'm sure they're asking all the staff what they know, Anyone spills something to reporters they're done.

I know, like I said, where I worked, after my coworker passed, there wasn't a break. I was there the next day and had to deal with it, and had to take his calls and go through that conversation over and over. It sucks, but that was life.

I'm thinking they'll play us next week then CIN the week after.

So you’re saying if he’s not okay they’ll keep him on life support until after the game ends.
