If it was commotio cordis, there’s usually a delay (mere seconds) between the trauma and collapse. After impact happens, the heart changes its normal rhythm, which leads to cardiac arrest.

I saw this happen in a boys lacrosse game before goalie chest protectors were changed in 2021 to protect against it. Luckily the team had an AED at the field, someone who recognized what happened and knew how to address it.

Thank you for the info.

dive master or master diver? either way, thats cool, and either cert level is a great accomplishment you should be proud of

I had to get certified for cpr/first aid for rescue diver, then maintained it through my tenure as an instructor... have let it lapse though... think I am going to retake the classes...

It was one of many steps for a dive master license

I never completed it, I never got the “search and rescue” certificate requirement to complete it. I had fantasy in my head that I would be able to actually do dive rescues, but my father explained to me that it’s really “search and recovery”, where you’re pulling dead bodies out of the water, not rescuing them

The only thing I’m missing is the search and rescue cert, i have everything else (advanced deep water, etc) and the total hours needed for dive master

Maybe I’ll pursue it again, I had a dream of running a little cabana bar and dive shop down south hehe

Goodell has zero power. If the players don’t want to play - they’re not playing.

NFL will be doing a lot of damage control over the “5 minute” rule.

I didn’t say I was original

always imagined that being a fairly relaxing way to make a living

I love how reporters need to add the qualifier of, “Obviously Hamlin’s health is the primary concern, but…” when talking about the actual game to make the lifeless losers on Twitter feel better. Stop that. Now. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together assumes you’re a normal person and you hope the kid makes a full recovery. Just do your job. The Twitter mob’s memory span has a two day time limit before they move on to the next thing to be OUTRAGGGGGEEEEEEDD about.

They have to exaggerate their feelings on air so they don’t look like sociopaths.

Ironically, that just makes them look like sociopaths. Tom Curran’s Tweet last night was puke-inducing.

it sucks but I think tonight makes the most sense for them to resume playing. move Pats/Bills to Monday afternoon (to avoid conflict with the national championship game). anything else just messes up the schedule.
they could play tomorrow and then Monday. That would be more rest than a typical Sunday-Thursday games.

Unless there is undeniably positive news about his condition they won’t be able to play tomorrow.

His tweet was f-ing bizarre. I swear he had a couple of vodka tonics before he hit post on that one.

He has a little bit of a quirky side to him but Christ....

I heard that some of the Bills players already went back to Buffalo

What's all this talk about Buffalo forfeiting games? Yes, this is incredibly tragic, even if he survives, and certainly many of the Bills player are no doubt traumatized, but there's no way they're forfeiting this game or any other game.

Firstly, is that how they're going to honor their teammate? By taking an L for the night. Secondly, the NFL would have to be pretty cold to slap an L on Buffalo even if they determine they're unable to continue with the game. I think the league would either discount the game entirely or conclude it as a tie. But really I doubt either happens because of the potential ramifications throughout the AFC standings.

Regarding their week 18 game, they're not forfeiting that one for sure. The league's just going to agree with handing the Patriots the 7th seed and eliminate several other teams? No way that's happening.

Seems like the most likely outcome is proceed with week 18 as scheduled, and once that's concluded, consider if the Bills-Bengals is even necessary (which it probably will be but there may be some scenario where the seeding is solidified), then possibly reschedule it for next Thursday, and push back by a day or two any resulting wild card games that either are involved in. Or have the Bills-Bengals play either 1/14 or 1/15 and push the playoffs back one week (which would condense the Super Bowl wait from two weeks to one).

Agree. Whats he gonna do? Fine them for not wanting to play?

The players will play. The reality is if they don't they lose a game check and the chance at hitting incentives, etc.

There is nothing wrong with having a teammate's health in their thoughts and prayers and at the same time playing games, doing their jobs and providing for their families.

Someone said we are all Bills Mafia tonight (last night)

I am pretty outraged about that

On Twitter, if you're not acting like a sociopath then you are a sociopath. Only actual sociopaths don't pretend to be sociopaths to placate other pretend sociopaths.
