Personally attacking fans? Holy **** that's stupid. Nobody said that so I can only guess that it's bouncing around in your head. Talk about embarrassing.

The guy is being paid to build us a team and is failing miserably. And you don't think he owes the fans any more than a few grunts and snorts? I guarantee you that you'd feel a hell of a lot different if you were trying to make a living interviewing him, at a fraction of what Bill makes btw, and had to put up with the nonsense he puts the media through.
The OP said he felt slapped in the face

First, anyone who plays with Mac Jones is going to suck. If AJ Brown were here, he wouldn't have the numbers.

But even if I agreed with what you wrote above 100% (let's pretend I do) it doesn't change the fact that the Patriots tried to sign the best players at those positions on the market. Hell, Belichick was criticized for spending so much free agency money before these players even saw the field. Henry, Algholor, Jonnu, even Smith-Schuster, these weren't bargain bin guys.

About the only guy they didn't pay in these years was Christian Kirk, who broke the bank with a huge guaranteed contract. He plays with a much better QB. If the Patriots signed him, he wouldn't have half the stats he does now.

Before Jonnu got hurt, he had 400 yards in half a season. Almost 2x as many yards as he had in 2 entire seasons with the Patriots. He left Mac and immediately became a producer.

First, even when Mac played well in his rookie season and Hunter Henry was producing, Jonnu Smith was only a glorified blocker who did nothing else. You cannot blame Mac for Smith’s lack of production. Mac Jones threw for 3,801 yards and 22 TDs his rookie season with Smith only having 294 yards and one TD. Smith’s lack of production is not on Mac. Henry had 603 yards (one of his better years of production) and 9 TDs (his career high).

Second, Belichick had a chance to get DeAndre Hopkins on the cheap. He is currently on track for a 1,000 yard season in an offense that isn’t producing with no QB. He might have been able to trade for AJ Brown or Hollywood Brown or Jerry Jeudy or Calvin Ridley or who knows else. He could have kept Meyers. Belichick did very little to give Jones anything.

Third, we can both agree that Belichick was willing to spend to get Cam Newton weapons. Where was this spending for Mac? He never spent to get Mac weapons.

Fourth, Agholor and Smith-Schuster are bargain bin guys. Both guys are journeymen. They are #2s at best.

No offense you seem to be acting like someone who was happily married and then found out their spouse was cheating on them. And now say the marriage was always awful and there was never any good times and their spouse was always an awful to them.

Some fans desperately want to believe the roster is good enough and it's all the QB play. It's just to insulate bill from any criticism of the season.

While Mac has been beyond awful and zappe wasn't much better, there's no use twisting ourselves into knots to try and convince ourselves that acquiring the likes of juju or Agholor is akin to the eagles trading for AJ brown or the dolphins trading for Tyreek hill. Or the bills trading for diggs.

Bill did the bare minimum he could on acquiring offensive talent. Paying top $ to a #2 or #3 receiver to instead be our primary weapon isn't "going all out". They are Brandon lafell types. Good players when next to Gronkowski/edelman. Not as your primary weapons. Remember Giardis stink stank stunk? That was before the QB play reared it's head.

Is the team 2-9 with just average QB play? No they are not. But what are they? They are no better than a 6-7 win team with average QB play. Is that good enough for some fans?

We aren't building towards anything. Besides maybe Douglas and Stevenson (who won't be paid by the pats) there's no one on this offense to view as a building block.

Building a middling offense full of jags does not work in today's NFL unless you are content to be a middling team.

And not sure anyone here would realistically hope we draft a stud QB prospect and hand them the likes of Juju, parker or Agholor and be like "here you go! Weapons!"

Two talking points I’m seeing already that don’t make sense:

1. Bill or the pats will screw up the draft pick anyway, trade down, etc.

Bill won’t be here. You know it. Everyone knows it. The pats are on their way to 3-14 & bill will be shown the door. It’s fair to question how the new gm will do but the pats aren’t trading down from the top 3 in this draft.

2. The pats supporting cast is so bad how will a rookie qb succeed?

Teams with good supporting casts aren’t drafting this high. Stroud entered the season with nico collins & rookie tank dell, burrow had tyler boyd & rookie tee higgins & josh allen had nobody. The pats will have 90 million in cap space and multiple high picks to make the supporting cast average for a rookie qb.

You can talk about what you want but bill won’t be the gm and the next qb isn’t throwing to juju & parker IMO.

That could explain not having a good offense, it doesn’t explain being incapable of having any offense. Jones has not only not improved over 3 seasons, he’s gotten significantly worse.

Bill says the same thing every loss. He isn’t getting through to his players anymore. And I still can’t believe that timid play calling at the end leading to the FG miss.

It’s over. What a way to wrap up a HOF career.

Following our favorite sports team is like a marriage.

Superbowls, conference championships and big wins are the highs.

Losses are fights and icy periods the lows.

...but there is never a divorce. Loyalty and commitment are to the death.

How do you know what input Groh or Wolf have had the decisions that have been made?
Widely reported. No mystery there.

Wolf wasn’t mentioned in my post.

That said, personnel is poisoned…can’t get rid of BB and keep the machine which lead to evaluations that produces this roster .

Heads must roll.

Mac is broken. He has been given a crap deal the last two years and it has broken him. A mentally tough QB could overcome it. Mac isn’t mentally tough.

The amount of posters who feel Bill is somehow personally attacking them because of his press conferences is embarrassing. ?? ?? ??
No - it's called being a fan and expecting your coach to feel accountable to the fans through the media. A feeling he clearly never had.

I have always hated how he behaved in press conferences but I could stomach it with winning.

If any employee behaved like this in a part of their job they would be fired.

Mac will be a fine backup somewhere. He's shown enough for that role. Just not a starter.

No shame in that. Backup is a great gig. Many first round QB's flame out completely. As a backup there's no pressure, expectations are much lower and you don't have to be a leader. Mac is not a leader and that's a big reason why he is done here.

If he can get his head back on straight, he can still potentially be a good starter in a system where there is everything there like Miami or San Fran. Not sure if he will ever have that opportunity though. Not sure if he isn't just broken for good either.

I've never and still don't feel accountability is a problem.

His boss played it up and milked it for 20 years he can deal with it now or he can fire him but to act like he's slapping him in the face somehow or some other things I've read on here is flat wrong.

Doubtful. He's not a leader. Calling out his teammates and pouting when things don't go his way are not leadership traits.

Marino and Manning did that their entire careers. If you are winning, calling out teammates and pouting are excusable leadership traits. When you are not, they aren't.

But their teammates didn't feel the need to reassure him and speak up for him on his behalf. I have an issue with that. Leaders do that to their teammates not the other way around...
