WEEI.com: Vick Talk Dominates The Day In Foxborough

Got about three sentences in.

Sorry Chris, I guess you have to write that stuff, but i don't have to read it.

What does Britney Spears think about the AFC East? That's what I want to know.

Thanks ... just hoping to give people some insight into the decision writers make as to what they want to write about.

As for Burgess, my source tells me that it's still out there, but the Raiders asking price is too steep, at least right now.

We all know Al's a bit nutty and stubborn. He's probably asking for one of the second round picks. BB would be offering a fourth. The question is will either settle for a third? The orginal trade rumor of Vollmer et al was way over the top.

No worries--no need to apologize. And I have a call in to Britney's people as we speak...

Ah, a joke about her double masectomy. Classy.

Wasn't aware until you posted that and I did a Google search that that happened to her. What a damn shame.

Thanks for letting me know, Perez Hilton.

"Lookout, someone called me on my witty joke, better ready up a 4chan retort to save face." -Kontradiction.

Nah, I'm just a dude and don't follow the gossip rags that much.

And that was a terrible comeback bro.

Thanks folks--I appreciate the constructive feedback. Truth be told, I went back and forth on what to write about today. But it just seemed like Vick was the most intriguing story of the day, and how the roller coaster ride of rumor and wild speculation around him and the Pats that went from the morning until the evening. I'm no fan of the Favre-type speculation around a player, so that made me a little uncomfortable. But my hope was to give people a sense of how things ebbed and flowed throughout the day.

Anyway, if you don't dig it, we also have some other stuff from today, like a look at Brady's Q&A and some notes about what went on in the morning session. Check it out on the site when you get a chance.

You guys got to learn to read this team in context, and send away for your Belichick to english decoders. Even Rodney's comments need to be analyzed critically. He said NE would be a good fit for Vick. Duh... But since when is Bill in the business of doing what's good for some player who screwed up his life? Bill is in the business of doing what is good for THIS team. Vick has such limited value to this team he would be of no real value. He can't be a backup here. Can't read defenses. He's never functioned as a RB, WR or KR and he's turned over more balls than he's scored with. He's not remotely versatile, which is what players 46-53 have to be to merit a roster spot here. He could run the option once or twice a game but does taking the ball out of Brady's hands even once or twice a game makes make any sense? He's got plenty of weapons and he's headed for Canton for cripes sakes...

how versatile will gutz or hoyer be? a better point rather than 46-53 would be who's spot does he take on the 45 man gameday roster instead of being the emergency QB (which would make Vick useless to us).

Gutz and Hoyer will be competing for the 3rd QB or PS QB position, neither of which Vick is remotely qualified/eligible for. Vick is not taking a spot on the 45 if his only use to this team is as a wildcat. Edleman might be able to handle that in addition to backing up at WR and KR and as a gunner on ST.

Chris's column wasn't intended to be a "does Vick help the Pats or not" column; it doesn't go in to that subject at all. It was about today's events on the Vick topic, and made a very good orderly summary of all the various comments, opinions and rumors. It got to the point that "is he or isn't he" was no longer the story, but the rumors themselves became the story.

If we want to point fingers at somebody for making this into something it's not, start with John Clayton and espn, then Mile Florio and Pro Football Talk, and finally Barstool Sports and the Miami Herald for going over the top with their reports.

Well said. Folks like Chris shouldn't just ignore the elephant in the room. Covering the rumors as a story as Chris did is appropriate. Also, I completely respect those uninterested in the topic.

You posted less like a ***** with your old avatar.

Not really. I've had this avatar for a couple of months so there goes your theory. And I guess "posting like a *****" means being offended when someone calls you out for making fun of people with breast cancer when that was nowhere near what you were really doing. But whatever floats your boat, buddy.

Come to think of it, you've always been a pretty crappy poster as it is and there's really no reason for me to read your posts or personal attacks. So, with that being said, enjoy the ignore list. Take comfort in the fact that you're on there with the likes of APatrioticVirginian.

And I won't be derailing the thread anymore after this so have a nice life.

Thanks guys. The intent was not to write a story about whether or not Vick could help this team. The intent was to write a story about the nuttiness of the day, the ebb and flow of rumor and innuendo around what was happening. (Which started for me shortly after 6 a.m. on Friday when I got an e-mail from someone saying they saw him at Logan.) National media was all over this story -- it would have been irresponsible on my part not to cover it. Again, this was not an analysis piece, nor a piece of speculation. Just a retelling of the events of the day.

I appreciate the feedback, and I understand those who want to steer clear of the topic. Keep writing, and never be shy about letting me know what you think about the topics I choose and don't be afraid to ask me why I wrote about what I did. I think this sort of dialogue between writer and audience can only be helpful for both sides.
