"Weaponize the offense"

I feel better at QB now with the excellent fa pu of Jacoby and the removal of bad vibes Corky. But LT? We are probably in trouble there.

Trade back methinks.

If this were a regular drafting situation - absolutely, you'd get quite a haul for pick #3, couple of firsts, plus.

My fear is that this will be a PR pick, and will be the 3rd QB on the board, whomever that is.

OTOH the two teams picking ahead of New England have a pretty fair history of pissing down their legs when drafting QB's. Outside of maybe the Jete and Browns there probably aren't two teams we'd rather see choosing signal callers ahead of our Pats than duh Bears and the artists formerly known as the Washington Football Team.

To weaponize the offense, we need to fix the offensive line!!!

It is important whoever is under center have time to throw the football

The staff should be able to coach #3 to be a top 15 qb in 2 years, as long as they give him a solid OL and a defense.

Here's some interesting numbers on spending on the offense. Pats are 27th. Can't get weapons if you don't spend the money.

Most expensive offenses in 2024:1. $188.8M - Browns 2. $178.1M - Rams 3. $158.3M - Cowboys 4. $152.8M - Chiefs 5. $151.1M - Broncos 6. $148.5M - Giants 7. $146.5M - Cardinals 8. $141.6M - Falcons 9. $138.5M - 49ers 10. $135.9M - Colts 11. $135.2M - Panthers 12. $133.0M - Saints 13. $132.4M - Texans 14. $132.2M - Jaguars 15. $124.3M - Bengals 16. $121.0M - Lions 17. $119.7M - Dolphins 18. $118.9M - Raiders 19. $117.8M - Vikings 20. $116.5M - Bills 21. $116.1M - Seahawks 22. $115.0M - Eagles 23. $112.6M - Ravens 24. $110.1M - Bears 25. $105.9M - Jets 26. $93.3M - Buccaneers 27. $89.2M - Patriots 28. $82.8M - Commanders 29. $78.1M - Titans 30. $68.4M - Chargers 31. $67.1M - Packers 32. $64.8M - Steelers

Can't get any weapons if none are available.

IF the Patriots had a QB making $40m, they'd be at $130m or 15th in the league, with $111m spent on D.

The difference is really whether or not you have a good QB.

OK Cousin, I am going see your $40mm QB and raise you a $50mm one. Your pretense is right.

Anyway, I'd like to start off today expounding upon a unique Saturday breakfast . Crisp bacon and two eggs over (I dropped one...opps. Had to get another) infused with Mexican cheese added for flavor, some home made thick slices of raised bread toasted and buttered with wild blueberry jam and then the side dish of an ingredient........ fried cabbage cut up and cooked in butter with champagne vinaigrette. Use a liberal amount of pepper, Top that all off with cranberry-grape juice and orange flavored tea. Pretty goo range of taste Cousins and hearty. The flavors and different tastes are delicious.

I saw this on a Vikings site so I can't take all of the credit or wrath of posters. Would Harbaugh trade Herbert? The Chargers are in CAP hell still. He is starting his tenure in quicksand and disposed of three beloved Chargers and had to save two others.

The negative on this whole supposition is that Herbert has a no trade $50mm deal but he arguably might be your top 5 QB in the NFL. He's still young. How do you convince Herbert to go to Minnesota or new England for that matter, and leave the sunshine of Southern California? Do you have to offer him more years?

That being said we still have the cash to spend for a Herbert that many Teams do not. It has been said that Herbert might not be the fit with Harbaugh as he wants to run first. He loves his Wolverine QB McCarthy who was more of a point guard and handed off a bunch. McCarthy was not concerned about 300 yard games. Herbert was not Drafted by Harbaugh so there is not a "I Drafted him" connection.

WHAT IF? What if there was a three way trade (yea ok....like the NBA) to help three Teams? A wide man said this the other day about the Vikings acquiring another First Round pick and them being desperate to get a top QB in this Draft; They did this for a reason and do they have a hand shake deal with a Team at the top (Pats?)

What if we took their purported deal of trading out of #3 for picks #11 and #23. They know that is no where near enough.....so they add a 1st Rounder in 2025 and a Third in 2026?

What if New England counters and says keep your 2025 First Rounder and give us WR Justin Jefferson now? They do NOT have the money to pay him buy we do.

What if the Chargers see the potential of massive Draft picks for Harbaugh's new regime and we offere said pick #11 and pick #23 plus our pick #1 in 2025 and the exytra 3rd we got bfrom the Vikes....Their counte might be ...nyet, give ius your First Rounder in 2026.? What if they say "throw in RB Stevenson"? ..they are going to run a lot. Would that interest the Bolts? Would that be enough to get Herbert to New England? Would he kill the Trade? The CAP will probabaly rise again in 2025 so a $50mm QB might be the norm in the next few years and his contract might be chaep.....relatively speaking.

The Bolts can get McCarthy at #5 (unless soemeone blows away Monty and the Cards) and pick a WR or TE like Bowers at pick #11 and an OT at #23

File this under"never happening" if you want but it is interesting. We have the CAP and resources to actually do this.

OL plan If I was GM:
- Try to get DJ Humphries on a 2 yr deal. Let him get healthy and return week 6-8.
- Although not ideal to start, if Humphries is signed, I would go with Okorafor/McDermott as the stopgap until Humphries is ready.
- With likely a top 10-12 pick in 2025, take the best available LT option. Let him battle with Humphries, then be ready to take over next season. If needed move Onwenu to G and start the rookie at RT.

Cousin , as far as a Drafted QB, ......And I am in the Trade Down contingent, Boutte has caught passes from Daniels at LSU.
A little side bar.

Hopefully Scott Peters and Kugler are looking at our current OL and said they can work with it. If that the case then I am willing to trust the guy that trained under Callahan.

Me too. Callahan = Dante. Don’t sleep on Kugler either.

…and somebody to throw to.
Yes, we need a #1 receiver, before we can rationally consider us to be contenders.

That being said the current set is much better than last year, especially considering the improvement in coaching and in expected QB play.

Compare last year after Bourne was gone to
Bourne, Douglas, Osborne, a draftee and whoever else makes the 53 from players on the current team. If I were ANY of them, I wouldn't be signing a long-term lease.

IMO, this is much better than in 2023. As I said, we should expect two more acquisitions by Game 1.
=======
As an aside, we do not need a top receiver to be greatly better in the passing game in 2024. We will need one to be a contender in 2025.
