We had 3 potential opponents for next week before yesterday.
Typically, this weeks preparation would have been more heaviloy on the ones we had not played this year because we didn't already have a recent book on them.
But we played all 3 this season so could at least spend equal time on each if not spending the most on the likely opponent, the 3 seed playing at home.

Well the donks have an advantage over us, our opponent has an extra day (8) to prepare (compared to a 'normal' NFL week), OTOH the Ravens will be playing on a short week 6 days from now.

but the broncos only have 5 days to prepare specifically for baltimore. they can't really do anything until tomorrow. also, the pats have an extra day to prepare for houston being that the game ended yesterday and we won't see them until next sunday. so you can look at it from both ways.

The real advantage so far is that Baltimore is playing Denver.

This gives us a better chance to play the title game at home...... assuming of course we take care of business next weekend

Baltimore was really beat up in the regular season game against Denver. Can't believe how good Lewis played. Seriously, does anyone think herbal medicine allowed him to recover so quickly. Ngata is playing better. If they can get anything out of Suggs, they might be able to slow Manning down. Flacco seems to have recovered a bit from his late season swoon. This is the round Peyton has struggled in a few times. Would surprise but not shock me to see Baltimore take that game to the wire.

No way. Manning has owned the Ravens and will continue to do so. I see something like 34-10 or something like that. But Denver will crush the ravens.

I am factoring the time that the Wild Card teams have to PHYSICALLY recover from the game. Houston has 2 more days to recover than the Ravens are going to get....

This is purely a gut feeling, but I think Baltimore is going to knock off the Bronco's. The Bronco's had a pretty simple schedule. The Ravens had a very tough schedule and have been battle tested. I have no faith in Flacco but the Ravens have a lot of Veterans on Defense that can change a game.

Houston just doesn't scare me at all, can they beat New England? Sure but only if the Patriots beat themselves or just bad luck or an Injury to Brady.

When the Ravens were stinking it up they looked good vs the Broncos in the beginning but their offense could not get anything going at all. If they're better on both sides of the ball it could be a close one and the Ravens could win.

A heavy dose of Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce makes sense for Baltimore. Both are playing well at present. Both were used sparingly the first time around.

It makes as much sense to put the ball in Joe Flacco's hands as it did to put the ball in Andy Dalton's hands when Green-Ellis was destroying the Texans run D. Run the ball and you slow down Denver's pass rush. You also open up the playaction which should work far better for Baltimore than using a straight up dose of Flacco.

Coming back to the original post, that's a good point plus having home field and an one week of rest are significant.

I am assuming that it's a lot of self-awareness stuff, trying to correct mistakes from within, maybe even some of the usual everyday situational stuff blended around?

But do you think that Belichick actually takes a calculated gamble that Houston was going to win, therefore spending a little more time with them? I wouldn't imagine that there's anything that would have trickled down to the players, only within the intra-coaching staff.

Or would he actually spend equal time looking at all 3 opponents, which would just simply allow them a quick glimpse of the prospects?

I've always wondered that, and he's actually touched on it a bit, but like most Belichick answers I don't remember it being anything all that worthy of satisfying my curiosity.

that old ravens defense played 87 snaps today and kept indy offense on the field for 38+ minutes and with over 400 yards offense. Dont think they will have anything left when manning runs that no huddle in that altitude. This has to be a layup for denver.

I am given to understand that Coach employs certain staffers to put together the breakdown, cheat sheets, and packages for each potential opponent. That way, as soon as it's identified, he can get right to work doing his analysis and game-planning.

I suspect that he had that material available within 15 minutes of the game ending, if not sooner.

Would not be surpised if that preparation was in place prior to the weekend.
