...and it brought back a lot of memories. We'll never see another team like the 2001/2003/2004 Pats. Other than Brady and possibly Law and Vinateri, there were no stars or hall of famers, but just a bunch of really good, smart, modest, determined players.

It made me realize how truly lucky we are to be in the SB with this team (not nearly as good, maybe more collective talent, but not as good of a team.) This team like those has heart. But this could be the last go around for Brady and Belichick.

Sure, as long as Brady is healthy and productive, he's good for 10 to 14 wins a year, but as far as going to or winning the SB, it takes a lot. Those teams were just better than everyone else (minus the 01 team.)

For this team to get where they did, it took a lot of big breaks. Sure, every team gets breaks (the Casey kick in SB 38 comes to mind, though I think even if he hadn't shanked it Brady would have still driven down the field anyway) but this team drew a very bad Denver team that didn't even belong in the playoffs and barely squeaked by a Raven team at home in large part to bad QB play (Flacco could have possibly put the game away with that roll out in the red zone and made it an 8 point game in the 4th quarter) and a total choke job (the dropped catch and missed FG.)

Sure you take advantage of mistakes, but I guess my point is look what had to happen for us to get here. There's a chance we might not get here again in the Brady/Belichick era. Like Billy Joel once sang "This is the time to remember, because it will not last forever." And I think Brady and Belichick know how important this opportunity is. It isn't about revenge, it's about taking advantage of a great opportunity to be the last team standing and holding up the trophy at 10 or 11 o clock a week from Sunday.

I'm not saying the other players don't want to win or don't have that hunger, but I think Brady wants it more than a fat kid wants a cupcake. My one fear is that maybe he's putting too much pressure on himself to carry the team.

One thing I saw in that 2003/2004 Brady was a calm confidence. Yeah he went crazy when they scored a TD, got pumped up etc., but he was relaxed. Maybe that's because he was too young to know any better, but I think he just needs to relax and play his game and not force throws into double coverage like those two picks.

Brady wasn't great in 2001-2004 because he was dominant. He was just a great field general and the smartest person on the field and in control of the situation.

Anyway, I just hope they take advantage of this opportunity. As the days have gone by, I've changed my mind, the Giants are a challenge, but they aren't the 85 bears where it's like "why even show up?"

Fact is, they got pretty lucky to win that game. The two hick ups by the punt returner, and Eli threw at least 2 or 3 balls I saw that could have been picked off. Our secondary will catch those if given the opportunity.

I disagree with you on the part that this might be the last run of BB and Brady together. We have a lot of young talent and we have multiple picks in the first round next year. We also have a lot of cap room next year which could be used to attract good free agents who will obviously be drawn to play for a Super Bowl Contender. I assume Brady has 2-4 years left in his prime and the future looks bright for the Patriots.

Vince Wilfork and Richard Seymore are possible HoF'ers too...and Corey Dillon perhaps.

No stars? Rodney, Asante, Seymour, Vrabel, Bruschi, McGinnest, Dillon, Troy and other pro bowl caliber players I may be forgetting. Maybe not 2001 but looking back now, the 2003/2004 teams were loaded with talent. I think people underestimated the talent just because of how good Brady and BB are, but those teams were as good as it gets.

And like pointed out above, this is definitely not the last run. We are going to contend for titles for the remainder of Brady's career, probably 4 years or so. Very little chance we lose anybody important next year as long as Welker/Carter/Anderson are resigned. We have a boatload of picks too and will be in good cap shape when we part ways with Oocho's contract.

I agree with other posters : those teams had lots of talent. When those teams played, I was alwas confident they'd win.

I also agree with the original post re : chances. Getting to the SB is rough. You need so many things to go right. TB/BB might return, and that wouldn't surprise me. But, I unfortunately think this COULD be their last shot. Hope it's not...

Only one team stands and wins the trophy at the end of the year, and only one team wins the AFC. Will the Pats win 10 to 14 games a year as long as Brady is productive? Like I said, yes. But getting to let alone winning a SB is tough.

You can be a dominant team in the regular season like we were last year and go 14-2 and lose in the first round and get upset by a team who just wants it more or happens to be better on that day.

I think a lot of fans on this site are complete and utter homers, almost like Yankee fans who talk about "27 championships"...well when's the last time we won one?

I don't watch the Patriots to say "Well we're a dominant team that blows out ****ty teams in the regular season" and loses their last game of the season.

After 07 I take nothing for granted.

I'm just glad this year's team isn't as arrogant as some of the members on this site.

Also to address someone else...Seymour/Bruschi are/were very good players, but not hall of famers or superstars or league "names." Bruschi only made one pro bowl and that's only because Ray Lewis didn't play in it and he was a reserve. Also, yes I'd add Dillon to the hall of fame list.

You guys act as if I'm not a Pats fan and putting the team down. I just realize we don't **** ice cream and have gained some humility after 06 and 07and last year.

It took a lot just to get here, and all I'm saying is I hope they don't blow this opportunity. Am I saying there's no chance we get back there next year or the year after? No. But look at the Packers, or the Saints the year before that...losing in the first round to inferior teams.

If you want to celebrate regular season dominance/stats, that's for Colts fans. I would trade anything but my family for this SB win because I realize how rare it truly is. Football playoffs are a one game season. It isn't like baseball/basketball or hockey where it's 7 games and it gives the better team every chance to prevail.

I think a lot of fans on this site are complete and utter homers,

Um, yeah. You're on a site called "Patsfans.com". The whole homer thing is something sportswriters called each other to make fun of someone's lack of objectivity, but then, for whatever reason (ratings or clicks or to stir the pot), they decided to call fans that.

We're allowed to be quote unquote homers. We're fans (short for fanatics).
