As they get obliterated by the Steelers, it dawns on me to ask whether Miami hit their peak with a 10-6 record off an easy schedule. By peak, I mean this will have been their best year record-wise over the next two or three seasons.

Are they the type of team to drop to 5-11 or 6-10 next year with a more challenging record or will they continue to build under Gase? Can they become a real threat in the division with an 11-5 type of performance?

Prior to three weeks ago, I thought they were an emerging power in the AFC much like Oakland and possibly Tennessee. After blowouts and pitiful play, not so much. Other than Miami, the division looks like it is spiraling further into AFC South level ineptitude (sans Patriots).

Thoughts?

They will drop next year by virtue of being second in the division and playing tougher opponents. I don't see them as becoming a legitimate threat.

Jeezus, how sad if so.

Can the the summit of something the size of a zit really be called a peak?

They won't be a joke, but I don't see them making the playoffs next year. They won a ton of close games this year and even though Tannehill was out today, just showing they don't belong on the playoff field against a playoff team. Fumbles, running the ball on 3rd and 4 when down 24 points, didn't force a punt until the 4th quarter. Guessing this year is their 2008 where they have a fluke playoff run and go back to being irrelevant. I think that year too they proved to be a complete sham in the first round against baltimore.

Trending downward. That D needs a lot of work. Wake is getting old and should be done soon. Offense isn't much better and took some otherworldly efforts from Ajayi to get them where they're at.

Still, much better than the jests

My guess is Ajayi won't surprise anyone next year like he did this year. They'll be 9-7/8-8 at best. DEN or BAL will replace them in the playoffs.

I honestly have no idea. Probably downward. I will vote downward.

Don't know if this was Miami's peak....but it was everyone else's peek at how Miami is among the best of the muddled mediocre middle.

They could do ok again playing for 2D place. Jesters are, well, the jesters. Jills are rebuilding the coaching staff. So that could give them 3-3 in East, 4-2 If they get one vs Pats or sweep both weak sisters.

So they just have to win enough other games. Afcs is a W, Faiders a L, Ravens i think they could beat (that is 2-1) . Not sure who the rest of schedule is but 55-45 is possible (4-3) [there are no top-bottom strong divs], so that makes 9-7 or+, which many years is enough for playoffs. Plus it will depend as for most every team draft and cap mgmt. I think they might start coming out of that stupid money spent on Suh next year. They will have the GmbH/coaching stability to maybe make decent draft decisions.

I think Gase seems like a decent coach. Landry is the real deal. Ajayi could be solid in future years.

Didn't their defense take some major injury hits late in the season?

If they stay healthy next year, if Tannehill takes a step, other optimistic things (FA's to lose/gain? cap? etc.), they could make noise.

Over/under 9.5 wins is a pretty tough bet to my eye.

I don't know if they'll win ten games again, but I would think they'll be competitive over the next few years. Gase seems to be a good coach. They're a young team, which is a plus. The Fins need some more depth to overcome inevitable injuries.

Even if Tannehill was not hurt they had too many backups starting at the end. I wouldn't characterize their 2017 chances based on the last two games.

It's way too soon to declare them one and done. Let's see what happens with their cap, free agency losses, free agency additions and the draft. I would think that they will probably be competing for a wild card spot.

Probably n0t.

Money under the cap
Ability to use cuts to free up more money
Promising young coach
Good offensive skill players
Good OL

I think Miami is going to be our main competition for the afc east crown for the next couple of years.

Their coach is a guy that can make them a powerhouse.

The best thing that can happen for us is their dc gets hired away,

Their mascot looks like tuna fish.
When a can of tuna is opened, my people come running.

They have no solution at QB so the O won't improve. They got good skill players though.

On D they need to do a lot of work and Suh/Wake are not getting younger or better.

A team built like the fins typically has trouble keeping it going because those free agent deals create a lot of dead money but Adam Gase had success this year and tougher opponents next year will make his job that much harder.

I remember people saying this about the Jets after the 2010 season...
