Was it more of Parcells help or Sparano's coaching that gave the 'Phins the upset?

Do you think Parcells had more influx into the game plan to help his Dolphins defeat the Pats or was it more Sporano and his staff designing the gadget plays that worked all day?

I say Parcells might have had alot of influence with his knowledge of the Patriots and Belichick -
Parcells does have a winning record (4 wins 3 losses) against NE as a HC after he left in '96 so he knows how to beat this team no matter how bad his team is -

So I guess credit will always go to Sporano and his staff and Ronnie Brown and Joey Porter for the shocker but I think the real success for the preparation of that game came from behind the scenes by Mr. Parcells who I think played a role in it being more than just a 'watcher'

IYO, Did Parcells play a part in the game plan for the upset or was he not at all involved?

Dan Henning, the offensive coordinator, is excellent. I doubt Parcells is significantly involved in gameplanning.

I would say we will never know.

If someone forced me to put money on it.....

My money would be on him being big time involved in the gameplan.

Parcells has my respect.

Have a look at the Cowboys.

I think Henning found a great way to capitalize on our bend but don't break defense. Let's face it ... our defense allows the opposition to develop plays in the backfield most of the time due to our style. We seldom disrupt plays in the backfield ... and I'm not going to go negative on that but it is what it is. Teams can throw new stuff at us every week because they know we don't really disrupt the developing play.

i'm interested in seeing if Belichick switches to more pressure if other teams exploit our style ... I was going to make a thread about this but I didn't want to make a controversey over it. So thanks for giving me a platform for my idea.

The QB coach and OC cooked up the single wing formation idea a couple of weeks ago. The use of the tight end over the middle has been their bread-and-butter all season. This come from the Palm Beach Post print edition on Monday.

I wonder if we'll see a rehearsed 4-3 package turn up in the next couple of weeks. Wouldn't surprise me.

That said, I think the whole league knows that the next time Penny lines up as a receiver he's gonna get leveled.

That did take alot of balls ... we should have lined Rodney up opposite Penny ... he would have been double-noodle.

I think it was a combination of factors. At the beginning of the game, a stat was used to give us an idea how bad the Dolphins were, they aparently had something like 28 new players on the roster this year compared to last. This of course was supposed to mean that they were going to lay down and die.

The Patriots obviously thought so, anyhow the Patriots were outcoached, outworked and out hustled. However, I think it was the unfamilarity witht he players of such familiar team is what ended up doing the Patriots in. They knew this movie or at least they thought they did...

Flukey IMO and hopefully a very important lesson to take into the rest of the games this year.

Re: Was it more of Parcells help or Sparano's coaching that gave the 'Phins the upset

I thought about how Parcells might have had a big hand in tripping up BB. He knows how BB prepares - by studying all available film. In order to beat him, you have to give him something he has never seen before and hope he can't adjust (which is exactly what happened). I am sure Parcells gave Sparano lots to work with. Plus, it is natural that the Pats would be working on, and specifically concentrating on, the offense, as they have to get a new QB going. BB probably thought the defense would be fine (as we all did) and didn't concentrate on it in the week leading up to the game.

Attacking the defense, and then going for the kill against the "O" when they predictably got panicky (after watching the D implode) was a brilliant game plan, and I am sure Parcells had a big hand in it. How else do you explain Miami looking pretty sucky the two weeks prior, and then looking like brilliant SB champs against us? The Evil Tuna strikes again!!
