Vrabel/Titans Part Ways With Ryan Allen

I thought Ryan Allen also had a helluva under-rated SB 53 vs LA...and I agree that Bill's decision to replace him by investing a 5th-rounder in another Punter - especially when considering who else was still available at that pick - was hasty and an illogical use of draft priorities.

If we do by some miracle make the POs, then I hope Bailey doesn't choke...again...

I don’t recall Bailey choking last postseason. What happened?

Either way, Bailey has been a better and more consistent punter than Allen. Allen had an extremely good Super Bowl but struggled at times with punting for distance, while Bailey has a massive leg - made some huge punts in that game against the Ravens in treacherous conditions.

Strange indeed. If not for drafting an excellent punter on a cheap deal I still considered Allen a strength here
And it's not like anyone was terribly upset with Allen's predecessor, either; it was just a case of "An error has occurred"; Ryan Allen was a two-time Ray Guy winner, but somehow went undrafted.

I never saw why the team made it a priority to replace him. (I'm perfectly happy with Bailey and don't disagree with the decision to have him)
IIRC, the issue was that Allen only signed a one-year deal, while they'd have Bailey for four years.

i was a big mesko fan. I think chris hansen was the last punter I wasn’t too crazy about

The Patriot punters during the early part of the dynasty were nothing to write home about. Ken Walter had a 38.6 yards per punt average. I was happy if the receiving team didn't get it back to the Pats line of scrimmage. Josh Miller had the best y/p average, at 43.6. Hanson's was 41.5, but these numbers are gross and not net yardage.

right, remember walter being terrible, and he replaced someone midseasin (lee something) so that guy was obviously terrible. I remember miller being pretty solid tho

Pats History Trivia, Punting Version:

Technically Matt Cassel holds the franchise single season punting average record, with one punt in 2009 for 57 yards.

Bailey is currently on track to become the Pats single season leader among actual punters, slightly ahead of Zoltan Mesko's 2011 season.

I have always considered Rich Camarillo to be the best punter in the history of the Pats, though part of that may be due to his being such a vast improvement over any of his predecessors from the previous quarter of a century. A bit surprised he is so far down in the rankings. If I am not mistaken, Camarillo is the only punter in team history to be named an All Pro,

Shawn McCarthy is the only Patriot to punt the ball more than 100 times. I don't remember him, due to thankfully deleting all memories of the 1992 **** MacPherson 2-14 Pats out of my cranium.
