Vrabel Press Conference

It’s like last year was a bad dream.
It’s crazy to see how unqualified Mayo was listening to even 5 minutes of coach Vrabel,
He seems determined and prepared to fix our program.
I wonder what players don’t fit his message,
If I had to guess, on defense he will rebuild the entire D line, pretty much.
I think white has his best year under Vrabel.
White loved BB because he coached him hard
He hated Mayo and wanted out
I think he will love Vrabel and play hard. May even become a leader

Nice to go back to having a head coach who can speak in cohesive sentences and articulate cohesive dialogue in general

Great things there, we cannot forget he is going to be a 2nd year player, and Vrabel key word here, to grow.

Maye came into the league needing development, and he still needs. As soon as a QB flashes there's this kind of hurry like everybody is so desperate for a franchise QB, we included, that we quickly forget there is a process to becoming that. The coaching staff is fundamental in putting the player in position to make the plays, to win games, but also to learn and improve. The front office needs to be able to put pieces around him in order to provide that.

If we want Maye to be where Josh Allen is today, there are steps, they can't ask him to do too much, I think he took a shot at Mayo here.

I know we are all too excited with Maye, he did show enough to make everyone in the NFL impressed, but things change quickly in the NFL and we have seen it many times. They need to get it right here.

He’s also very good friends with the Wisconsin head coach, Lou Fickle, both schools seem to always have really good offensive lines.
Luke Fickle

Quite frankly Vrabel is fortunate that Maye's rookie year was all-in-all a successful one. He improved on his fundamentals. He got some significant playing time. He made some mistakes and learned (hopefully) from them. Most importantly, he isn't Mac Jones-level broken. There is still plenty to work with.

On the other side, Vrabel and his future coaches have plenty of film to analyze and use as coaching points.

Aside from improving the o-line and receivers, I feel pretty confident Maye will be a better QB in 2025.

It pisses me off that Eliot Wolfe still has a job and it sounds like he will retain his position. The Krafts are taking half measures and get zero credit for Vrabel. Easiest hire ever.

The “ no credit” line that goes around here, wolf gets no credit for drafting Maye, Kraft gets no credit for hiring Vrabel, is complete and utter ********. If someone who is making critical decisions is going to be blamed for those decisions if they fail, then they should get credit for them if they succeed. And that goes for every and any walk of life. It’s the hubris of certain fans who believe that they get everything right, but those they are criticizing are just making lay ups when they make the actual decisions. It’s armchair quarterbacking at its finest.

We know that he worked under or with Bill and Mayo over a period in which our drafting was abysmally bad. That suffices to move on. I have yet to hear a substantive counterargument to this observation, just a lot of happy talk about how it will "all work out."
There are 99 days until the draft. The 2024 draft was abysmal, no doubt, but Wolf has been at the center of preparing for the 2025 draft, and while he won't be a decision maker this time around, they still need him as the nexus of all scouting and analytical data they have. So there's your sound reason for keeping him around: they don't have time to blow up all the draft prep and begin afresh with new personnel staff, so there will be a hybrid process where Wolf's analysis will factor in. I doubt he lasts much beyond this year, unless he proves valuable to Vrabel. Your problem is that you won't admit Vrabel is the man. He talks like he is and we have inside reports that he is. And what's happening makes perfect sense once you accept it.

One more thought on Vrabel v Mayo: The difference in aura couldn’t be as stark of a contrast.

I never wanted to say it when he played here, but Mayo always seemed like a pretty bland, awkward guy. He always felt like the face of those late 2000’s/early 2010’s transition years where there was no energy or leadership on that defense.

You literally feel the energy of that early 2000’s dynasty returning to the building with Vrabel back.

Agree. What stood out to me the most was that you instantly knew what the identity of the team is going to be, and they will build the team to fit that identity. To me it seems more like Parcells than anyone else, they are going to punch you in the face on both sides of the ball. Toughness is going to be their identity, and I love that, because I have always believed that you have to win the fistfight to execute, and you have to execute to win the game. If the guy across from you is beating your ass then you are going to lose. And I expect them to win the fistfights going forward. I fully expect the sign going into the locker room to say No ****ies Allowed.

I’m not sure who you are responding to but Vrabel is in control of football operations. Everyone is reporting to him, and he has final say on all personnel decisions. He’s already said he is fine with working with Wolf, so I’m not sure what the debate is any more?
