Vince Wilfork: Hall of Famer?

I was just thinking about this. He's been great for such a long time, but recently, he's just become Sapp-esque. What do you guys think about Big Vince's HOF potential?

My only question is why is there a question mark after your question???

I think part of it will come down to evaluating the 2001-(end of the run, whenever that may be) Patriots teams and determining how many HoF reps those teams will have. Brady's a no-brainer, and a couple of other guys will make it, but only partly for their contributions in New England (Moss, Harrison, Seau, maybe Dillon, maybe Waters). The bottom line is that, given how successful the Pats have been for a solid decade, some of the guys who contributed here primarily will have to make it. The most likely candidates are among the following:

Wilfork, Welker, Mayo, Bruschi, Law, Seymour, Mankins

When it's all said and done, I'd bet that 1-2 of those guys make it to the Hall, and if I had to guess who it will be, I'd probably bet on Wilfork and Welker.

I put it:

Seymour
Mankins
Welker
Wilfork
Law
Bruschi and Mayo have no shot in hell at this point. Mayo at least has time to prove it, Bruschi is already out of the running.

I used to be questionable on Welker, but I'm coming around. I think with his level of production it will be hard to keep him out.

How many linemen get INTs? I think he deserves the HoF.

The only guy who even has a shot here is Seymour.

I don't think you guys realize how hard it is to get in the hall of fame. Vince Wilfork is a GREAT player, but there are much better players not in. Remember, guys like Steve McMichael, Too Tall Jones, and Cortez Kennedy are still not in.

Without a few more seasons that resemble 2010-2012, not happening. I'd say he has like a 10% shot right now.

Brady / Seymour / Moss with a real outside show for Welker and Law are the only real HoFers in recent memory. Too early for Gronk.

This Cortez Kennedy?

Kennedy is in. McMichael wasn't elite for long enough. Too Tall Jones was massively overrated. Harvey Martin was more than twice the player. In his prime Jones was probably not a top 15-20 DE in the league, much less a HOFer.

I read right here at Pats Fans that DeWayne DeBlubbergutsterson was ten times the defensive tackle "Wilfat!!!" would ever be....guess that's why they call him Moron Moron 19...

I don't mean any offense by this....but is there ANY QUESTION???? Yes he should be in the HOF!!!!!! This guy has been dominating since he came in the league and is the EPITOME for his position....and he CAN DO IT ALL!!! INT's with big time run backs, spine seperating hits.....Vince is the total package and IMHO (and all Sane Pats fans I would imagine) him not getting into the HOF would be a travesty!!

Steve McMichael has a better shot at the wrestling hall of fame.

I completely agree. Seymour is the only one I would be kinda surprised if he didn't make it. Welker and Mankins are interchangeable for me, I put Mankins ahead because I think he's going to keep racking up Pro Bowls and All Pros for the next few years. Welker is tougher to gauge, if he falls off a cliff production-wise he won't get in. 3 more years at this production level and I think he will get in, that is a tall order though. Probably only happens if he stays with the Pats and can stay healthy (plus a few more years of declining production to pad the career numbers). Retiring with 6-7 100 catch seasons when the next best guy (Jerry frickin' Rice!) only has 4 is a pretty compelling argument IMO.

Wilfork and Law are longshots. Law is a really longshot IMO. His career numbers don't warrant consideration when compared with inductees, he only gets consideration because of the defenses he played on. At least Wilfork plays a position with minimal statistical expectations, so he can be considered without having to worry about comparing his production numbers. If I had to put money on it, I'd say no for Wilfork.

I know WW needs to rack up some more stats, but I'm not sure exactly how gaudy they have to become to get him in. I think the fact that he's (correctly) considered the best player to ever play the slot receiver position by many will help him out immensely.
