Very thin @ CB.. Will a trade for an experienced CB be viable?

Yes. It's actually an indictment of the CBs that this team is running out safeties as nickle and dime players.

On the positive side, it's also a testament to the team's comfort level with Harmon along the back end.

I dunno, the Pats were playing a lot of big nickel last season, when CB wasn't a concern, and we weren't even as strong at safety.

It's a league-wide trend, actually. It's a way of splitting the difference between base and sub packages.

And every year, we have people saying the Pats won't be a championship-level tean if the Pats don't make a big acquisition at X or Y position.

Last year, it was mostly interior o-line and outside receiver, iirc. And then the Pats make two minor moves for little-regarded linebackers, and go on to win the Super Bowl.

No, it more than that. Stork and Browner, for example.

As fans, we tend to focus on need when it comes to making trades, when in reality, availability in the main determiner.

Lack of availability doesn't negate the need.

Meh. The side opposite Revis was matchup driven and as much as I liked Browner, he was a liability in coverage and needed to bring a jug of Tide each game to clean all the laundry thrown his way

Maybe that's why he was so slow.

How the heck to the Broncos still have $7.5 million in cap space?

They have $3.4M in dead cap, and no individual accounts for more than $812K. The Pats have $17.8M in dead cap space, mostly on account of Revis, Mankins and Arrington (who count for a combined $12.2M). Even Reggie Wayne managed to steal $450K for a couple days of preseason practice.

The Broncos, comparatively, have avoided big dead cap hits; their biggest is under a million, and that was Prater who they cut so they could pay a better kicker peanuts. Of course, the other side of that is they've constructed a much worse team than we have and didn't just win a Super Bowl.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with that overall philosophy. The Mankins trade worked out well in hindsight, getting out of as much cap hit as they did was the right call after overpaying him to end his holdout. I hated the Arrington contract from the moment he signed it, so I can't blame the Pats for getting out of it the moment they feasibly could. And taking a few million off this year's cap to get Revis last year was totally worth it, because it was a huge part of the reason why the Pats have a fourth Lombardi in the trophy case.

Ahh, Mankins. The gift that keeps on giving.

Are we content with our CB lineup or do we make a last minute trade?

They could certainly get another Cb but I don't know if they will be able to

Holding out hope for Sean Smith for a 3rd. Other than that, not really sure who would be affordable and still be a substantial improvement.

If your goal is to get Coleman off the field (which i think would improve the D a good amount) a number of possibilities exist that would be improvements.

As much as I'd like to get a true #1 CB getting just a competent starter would help a fair amount too.

Maybe if they can find a team not paying attention and will trade a CB for the Pats first round pick this year?

.... SCREW YOU ROGER.

Butler is looking a little more like a 2CB with the potential to be a 1CB long-term. Right now, and to be expected, his growing pains are obvious.

If the Pats can get Smith for a song, then yes, otherwise I'm happy to ride out with this lot.
