I would love it if we could get Edinger. He played for the bears when I moved out here in Chicagoland(2001) so I have seen him kick many times. Strong and accurate.
If I remember correctly his kickoffs went very deep, too.
Adam always had trouble with that.
If his name comes up as a signing for us, be very glad, guys.

I'm confused by Edinger. I recall he had a few good years, then I think the Bears cut him, no? He was unemployed for awhile, and then he barely caught on with the Vikings when he eked out an open competition with some stiff who isnt' even in the league.

Why is everyone so high on the guy?

Again, I recall years ago he was decent, and cold weather is a plus, but I thought he had taken a nose dive recently.

THERE IS NO WAY WE SIGN MR WIDE RIGHT

Harrison thinks hes a Vandy Jerk, Vandy thinks our secondary is ripe for the picking, NO CHANCE IN HELL.

Here's a pretty good bio for him.

Most accurate kicker in Bears history

Choke job Vanderjerk in a Pats uniform? No thanks. I suspect Rodney Harrison shares my sentiments. :)

I tend to agree but for different reasons. I don't buy the whole clutch vs choke bull****. Despite his accuracy, I say it's highly unlikely that we don't sign him because he doesn't do kickoffs.

The day we go with a place kicker, a punter, and a kick-off specialist is the day I shave my head bald. THREE roster spots for game-day active kickers? No thank you.

Not in BB's multiple position strategy and would be a short term deal if it happened.

I would prefer a kicker who has performed "consistently" in bad weather conditions. Mare does not exactly meet that criteria.

Patriots | Team will talk contract with Vanderjagt
Tue, 21 Mar 2006 19:53:37 -0800

Bill Burt, of the Daily News, reports free agent PK Mike Vanderjagt (Colts) and his agent, Gil Scott, are planning a visit to Foxboro within the next two days to talk contract with the New England Patriots. "We've been in some discussions," said Scott regarding the Patriots. "New England is an attractive place. They're a championship team. They're a Super Bowl contender. Let's just say there is mutual interest." As for potentially making the switch from indoors to the northeast, Vanderjagt's agent said his client would welcome the chilly climate. "People forget that Mike kicked for two years in Canada," said Scott, referring to the Canadian Football League. Scott says Vanderjagt's list of possible teams next season is New England, the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.

As for the Edinger fanclub, the ONLY year in which he topped 80% as a FG kicker was his second season in Chigaco - 5 years ago (2001). It was downhill thereafter and they released him after 2004 when his % dropped to 62.5%.

As far as kickoffs go, his don't. Consistently well below AV. And of course Vanderjerk would require a stunt double for KO's tying up 2 roster spots and added salary. Maybe Polian would just give us Cortez as a KO consolation prize since he won't need him any more. Vandy did kick in Canada - 10 years ago. He could handle kickoff then too.

I said it before, I'll say it again. BB signs this guy and he has officially jumped the shark.

I think that Vandy is going to ask for tha same type of money that the Colts gave AV. If that's the case, you would think the Pats would have just resigned AV.

If we sign a veteran it will be for $1M or so and no more IMO. If Vandy, Eddinger, Mare, whoever, don't go for that we'll sign a couple of UDFA, late draft picks, journeyman vets and let them compete.

Vandy was making quite a bit of coin in Indy. I'm guessing he wants to keep getting paid like that and his ego probably won't let him take a pay cut.

I didn't say he would take it, just that I think that's what we'll offer. That's the way the Patriots work, you know.

If that's the case, you would think the Pats would have to just say, "No Thank You".

dude any kid in college could kick the same % as adam or vanderjerk.... adam made 2 key kicks that made him a god to new englanders...... he really wasnt that good a kicker; he almost lost 1 SB by himself... BB knows for sure.
