Using the Lions to Bait the Dolphins

Rappaport reports that Brady hardly, if ever, audibled out of any of the blitzes by the Lions, and if he had, the ball would have been out much sooner.

Anyone else think that BB was using the Lions game to 'bait' the Dolphins into attempting a similar blitz strategy against the Patriots?

Oh, those TRICKY Patriots!!!

What if he used the Lions to bait the Dolphins into thinking he was using the lions as bait knowing they wouldn't want to be baited into taking bad bait and wouldn't bite the bait and would be double baited into his trap ?

I'm telling you, he's a freaking master baiting genius.

The patriots did not play well. Not at all. Even with the best game plan in the world, if they played with this effort they would lose. With that said. It was obvious that the team was looking at certain things and made no real changes to what they were doing no matter what the lions did.

It's preseason so meh.

According to the league it is a violation of the rules for opposing coaches to discuss strategy prior to a pre season game. Apparently some HC's were unaware of that rule. I doubt Bill was one of them. He prides himself on knowing all the rules these days...We were working on stuff...same as weeks one and two, only not executing terribly well in the process. Detriot gameplanned and was playing their preseason superbowl. I think Bill miscalculated what the Lions would be doing, and that was what he did his post game mea culpa for. He didn't put his guys in a position to win, because he wasn't concerned about winning, but in the process a SITUATION developed and they fundamantally executed so poorly against the pass and against the pass rush they almost cost themselves more than a preseason game.

Did I miss the obvious post pointing out that Belichick must be a master baiter?

QB12 baited you into saying that.

Yes. :singing:

This is the most ridiculous notion ever. Anyone who can't see the Pats got their azz handed to them has their head in the sand.

Whilst I agree it's a far fetched proposition the o-line missed a heap of blocking assignments and didn't execute that well. I didn't notice Brady switching to audibles from my obseravtion of the interaction between Brady, his offensive line and the skill position players. Hell even the defense sat back on its arse the entire game and basically "let" the Lions offense dictate.

I think it's somewhere in the middle. The Patriots went in with a specific game plan and did not deviate from that game plan. That happened to coincide with Detriot playing a very good game.

I don't think Dolphins eat Lions. We're better off using Tuna as bait for Dolphins.

This loss didn't come down to BB obsessively following a specific game plan of "Ignore the Consequences", or Brady failing to check down, or hiding the D in vanilla pudding. It came down to losing individual match-ups.

I disagree with you from what I observed. It was a combination of those factors.
