It was not at all difficult to see this kind of Draft coming.
The Offensive line has been making do with UDFAs in the interior for a while now and TFB's 40 sacks show they needed better. So we got a pair of 4th rounders to augment the interior and right side of the line.
( I was urging the draft of a premium guy in the First or Second like Martin, Sua-Filo or Bitonio but BB didn't think we need be that drastic; plus Cannon may be ready for a full time job at RG.)
Even following BB's script I would have drafted Brandan Thomas with the 3, and used a 6 or 7 for positioning in the fourth to take Starks. Freeing up Cannon for RG, meant finding a genuine RT sub, and that is what the Stanford's Fleming guy represents, in my opinion.
The cupboard was bare at TE in this Draft. Anyone could see that, except those insistent on wasting a #1 for a reserve clone to Hoomanawanui, to sit behind the All-World TE that they already have.
BB added a WR and a RB to go along with the QB and RT, G and Center that they acquired. The Offense awaiting Keller's signing, is now fully upholstered for Brady's Valhalla journey, and the replacements accession. Every position on Offense was or will be augmented.
Is every one Blind, or is it simply Denial?
The GOAT QB started the slide in a big way this past season. For the first time, his QB rating dipped into the average range, his completion rate slid below the mid 60% range, his Long Ball accuracy, never great to start, became almost invisible. Even more ominously, his pocket presence and elusiveness declined significantly. Marino says the legs are the first to go,affecting both elusiveness and the long ball. Many times he just curled up for the sack, rather than side-stepping like he used to do. Brady's statistics don't lie, in this case.
Excuses will appear about the new, raw receivers, injuries, yadda, yadda, yadda. But Excuses none the less.
We can easily see the decline in Peyton, with his now rag arm, yet Denial still exists in New England. The really good ones have a Comeback of the Year in them, and I fervently hope for it. But Father Time waits for no Man.
BB is no Fool and always an utter Realist. He saw clearly what is occurring. Just as he saw it in Bernie Kosar, and is taking the steps to ease the transition, including drafting another high rated possibility. He knows from bitter experience, that the fans won't like whats coming, anymore than the Cleveland fans did. Kosar believed he could still play, and so will Tom.
