Ty Law with 3 picks ...

Could it be Ty is always gambling knowing that interceptions are the only confirmable stat for a cornerback?

* He didn't give up a TD all year. All CB's gamble to make picks. That's how they make picks. Have you got any proof he gave up completions because he gambled for a pick? Or just the usual trashing of ex-Boston sports team players? He now has 49 picks which puts him ahead of HOFer's:

Herb Adderley 48
Willie Wood 48
Jimmy Johnson 47
Mike Haynes 46
Jack Christiansen 46

If he continue's to play, and there's no reason to think he won't, and gets 5
more picks in his career, he'd be tied for 7th in picks for HOFer's. Now some of the 16 HOF DB's also were good/great punt/kick returners. I'd think he's close to in. And another Patriot is the HOF is a good thing, IMO.

After all they're New Yorkers and they took a top New England player.

law is still one of my fav players, he was hurt and didnt join a team till late, and still had 10 picks. he took brady the other way last week. i hope he comes back to the patriots, we could use him.

You watched every game and confirmed what his assignment was on every play, no matter what type of zone?

Herman Edwards, who played 10 seasons as an NFL cornerback, said he knows a good one when he sees him, and Ty Law is a good one. In fact, said the Jets coach, Law might even be an immortal.

"You can say what you want, I've played the position, 10 interceptions in one season is pretty good," Edwards said. "This is the NFL. He had a great season for a guy who is coming off an injury. Coming into camp, he was nicked a little bit. He worked his way into shape and that's why he's a Hall of Famer."

The fact the passing game has changed the past 20 years (leading to receivers like Art Monk being denied the Hall so far) has caused the standards for CBs to change... it goes hand in hand.

If I recall when this came up last offseason someone put up a chart of typical number pro bowl seasons for HOFers and Law looked quite short. The fact he made it this year partly on rep bodes well for him, though.

As late as Thanksgiving they were singing a different song in the Meadowlands where old Ty was concerned. Even Herm the hugger was taking shots at 24 because his costly penalties were far outweighing any benefit from his picks. If you watched his play over the course of the season it would be hard to quantify it as anything more than a mixed bag. He got another pro bowl nod the way most of those are awarded - on name recognition and as is the case with CB's - picks. His penalties were often game altering (resulting in sustaining drives that led to scores) while his picks seldom effected the outcome. And the penalties came in the first 10 games when the JETS were fighting to stay afloat (so I doubt he'd have helped us much vs. Starks). He cleaned up his act in the last 6 games when the JETS were mathmatically out of it.

As for his contention that he did not give up a TD, I still have visions of LaDanian Tomlinson juking him out of his shoes on one. I guess passes thrown to RB's he's covering in the flat don't count. Another Ty Law Rule.

He took himself out of some games late because of foot pain. He is lugging around 20 lbs that have proved hard to shed at 32 with an achy foot. He can still play, but he is a shadow of the player he was here through 2003. He will never regain that form, and at 33 he'd be barely worth the $10M we would still have him signed for through 2007 had he taken that deal in 2004. He was not worth the $16M he was guaranteed in that deal for 2004-2005 though.

Before the pro bowl selection he might have come back here for comfort, but that has inflated his batered ego back to the point he will again go chasing those all important $$$$$. The JETS paid him an extra $3M this season in some form of cap relief move. But they will not pick up his $11M option for 2006, which he now says he understands (LOL). Whether they want him back at all remains to be seen since he was not the team leader they somehow envisioned. The JETS are in fairly serious cap and QB trouble heading into 2006.

QBs pick on Ty Law at their peril. QBs know that. their offensive coordinators may tell them it's there, but it doesn't look like on the field, in real time.
if they throw over there 50% more next season, he will have 50% more interceptions.
law will be known as one of the 10 best cornerbacks in the history of the nfl.
IMHO he is still worth a turnaround on 2 games a year.
robert kraft would have paid $10 million just for that 3-interception performance against ol' peyton in the 2004 AFC championship.
i wish we had him for the playoffs this year.
but not for $13 million.
