Troy Brown: Jets don't really believe they can win

I think the critical part will be whether or not they can get up on them again early. It's pretty clear they struggled when trying to play from behind here last time and it just snowballed from there. As I said earlier the key will be making sure they don't let up if they're able to put some points up on them.

Exactly. On offense, pounce on them early. Get up by a few scores and force them to abandon the run by the time the second half rolls around. On defense, set a physical tone right off the bat just like we did a few weeks back. If we can accomplish those two things, this game should go our way.

Which begs the question, if the Patriots win the toss does BB defer or take possession?

I would definitely take possession if I were BB. Either way, though, even if we lose the toss, history says that Ryan defers and fields his defense first. Not sure if he's going to buck that trend for us, though.

I'm with you in that I would take possession. Hopefully the Patriots drive the field and force the Jets to play catch up from drive number 1.

Personally I always want them to kick off. Love the feeling of being up at the half with the lead and the ball to start the 2nd hall. Give Sanchez the ball first in a loud Gillette Stadium(the place should be really loud at the start of the game so don't quiet them down by giving the pats the ball first).

BB if you're reading this... which we all know you are.
BE ready for a Rexy onside kick to start the game.
That's his style - nothing to lose.
The guy that will bite your ear in a fight.

That's what doomed the jets last time. They came out scared $hitless and started pulling as many gimmicks as they could. They knew they couldn't win a straight up game. They'll likely try to play it straight this time, but they already know it won't work.

Agreed. I think logic dictates the last thing RR wants to do is act desperate. If the on side kick failed, everyone would be looking at RR and think "why would you be taking such a risk and give the potent Patriot offense a short field". The most plausible reason is he believes he has to gamble to beat the Patriots.

Anything can happen but I'd be shocked if the Jets come out and do anything but first down = run, second down = run. third down = maybe pass-maybe run. If they move the chains doing that then all of a sudden I like the Jets chances.

I think there will be a lot of pressure on the Jets to make a statement early in the game, but I think there are a lot of players on that team who are full of themselves and think the better team lost that night.

Braylon Edwards: "I remember what happened [Dec. 6 in a 45-3 Patriots win] but at the end of the day we know we're better than them. ... If they come at us with their press coverage or man-to-man they did at beginning of the game we'll take advantage of it this time."

I hope that BB has this sh!t posted everywhere in that locker room.

I wonder if Dilfer is still going to try to make a case that the Jets are the better team should we win like he tried to do before AND after the December beatdown in Foxboro...

of course they do not "really" believe they can win.

I mean come on, sanchez was shell-shocked the entire game.

If the patriots offense produces, it doesnt matter how good the running game is for the jests, they will lose.

I think the critical part of this game is New England needs to come out again and play with the same tenacity they did in the last game, and play with the same intensity throughout and not let up. I had a discussion with someone the other day about the fact we've seen them really focused down the stretch of making sure they play a complete game for four quarters, and I'm hoping that continues through the postseason.

I think the other big part of this game is whether or not Belichick can convince the young guys that they're not quite as good as some of them think they might be. They already appear to understand that, but obviously in the playoffs there's less margin for error. You lose, and you don't get another game after that to bounce back...at least not for another seven months.

Excellent post.

Jet's fans not believing in the Jets? EPSN Poll.

Diler's job is, and WAS in those situations, to come up with a plausible argument. Not sure if you're implying that he actually believe the jets will win. A lot of the commentary on those shows is scripted, but even setting that aside, he made it clear it was a matter of "If the jets have a chance of winning, here's how."

How many times do we have to hear analysts say that the Patriots are dominant, near impossible to beat, etc..., before we stop playing the disrespect card?

agreed, The only analyst thats a true Dbag is "The greatest turd on turf" Marshall Faulk but he's more of an ex-player with a grudge than an analyst.

I know what his job is. I have a BA in communications. However, Dilfer wasn't stating what you claim he was. His exact words were: "No matter what happens on Monday night, I still believe that the Jets are the better team of the two". There was no plausible argument after that. After the game, he said that he still believed the same thing and, again, gave no plausible argument as to why.

Usually I like Dilfer. I like his insights on the game. He was way off this time.

My soccer team is an example of how this ball game can go.

In the Scottish league Rangers beat Dundee United 7-1 (the equivalent of about a 45-3 blowout) at Rangers stadium the first game after Dundee Uniteds coach had left for the national job.

3 Months later they met in the knock out competition and Dundee United recovered from 3-1 behind late on to draw 3-3 and win the replay 1-0.

The better team doesnt always win and a blowout a couple of months previous means little.

That said Rangers usually beat Dundee United unfortunately, and 9 times out 10 they do so, sometimes comfortably.

Hopefully BB can find the gameplan that lets us fans enjoy the Jets game, he usually does 9 times out of 10, comfortably again would be nice.

Another soccer example is in the 1954 World Cup.

Hungary beat germany 8-3 in the division. An absolute mauling. They both however reached the World cup final.

Hungary took a 2-0 lead after only 8 mins. people thought it was going to be another mauling blowout but Germany actually recovered to win 3-2. An amazing turnaround. :bricks:

I do think however that the Pats will win the game.

I was going to rip into him for getting ****y, then I remembered Troy's not on the team anymore...

dilfer's reaching now. the pats are by far the better team. i do think the jets will put up a bit of a fight this time, but will eventually concede to the swarming pats.

that goes hand in hand though, as peyton learned

i would love to see NE make LT cry again, but how rex changed it up vs indy, compared to the loss last year, should at least make NE expect a much tougher game sunday

if the jets run game does well, that means they're keeping brady OFF the field, and that's how you beat NE and indy, you keep their best players off the field, or just get a crapton of takeaways

NE is such a huge favorite, because of the turnover differential

if they keep protecting the football and win the turnover battle, they'll win this weekend.
