Trolling Mayo?

That does not at all preclude his being an *******. I mean, I'm a pretty bright fella, but I'm kind of an *******. I mean, I don't do the GIF thing, so I'm not that bad.

Was Vrabel trolling Mayo in practice? Why else would he wear 51?

Or maybe he was channeling the spirit of **** Butkus. This had nothing to do with anything, least of all "trolling" Mayo. There is no need for him to troll Mayo, who did the ultimate troll job on himself going 4-13.

By the way, Mayo choosing to stay out of coaching is pretty telltale. He obviously has little passion for it and probably never should have tried.

Any man who has to say "I'm a pretty bright fella..."

Good for you, you figured out what they're called. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Bothered by false modesty, are you? OK then: I'm a very bright fella. Happy?

As for new tricks, such asininity as posting childish pictures goes back to the days of the cave dwellers. While the more competent men were out slaying mastadons and romancing the cave ladies, the less capable weaklings were back in the cave, scratching pictures on the cave wall.

FWIW Jack Gibbens currently wears #51 for the Patriots, and Mike Vrabel coached him for two years with the Titans. Vrabel could be praising Gibbens or could be busting his balls. Just presenting another possibility.

You obviously have no idea what level of a ball buster Vrabel is. He's a 100% go for the jugular type of guy. If it's not a coincidence and he's trolling, I have zero problem with it. Mayo did zero for this franchise, he was a joke as HC.
Mayo was picked by old man Kraft because hiring a minority HC was suppose to get him a gold jacket like his pal big Jerry.

I seriously doubt that Mayo made promises regarding his HC abilities because he was on the job training.

Mayo gor bent over by the Krafts.

They did not spend cap money on new FA. The 2024 draft was pathetic. Brisset was the starting QB. They had to put Maye in behind that Swiss cheese OL. Who was a rookie QB who made rookie mistakes.

Vrabels year 1 is totally unlike Mayos year 1.

Reading too much into it IMO. What purpose would Vrabel have trolling a coach who is not here anymore?

Do you even know who Mike Vrabel is? First, he is an incredibly bright mind. Second, there is a loyalty to Mayo in this locker room still. He is still winning it over. He actually does play mind games if you follow his career. I am not sure if he is doing that by wearing 51, but I think he is too smart for it to be an accident. There is a reason.

It actually (kinda) makes sense he's wearing 51... When he was first signed way back in 2001 Vrabel wore 51... Free agent LB Rob Holmberg was signed, and was wearing 50... Then the Pats signed Bryan Cox a bit later on, who wanted 51, which was "his number"... Bryan Cox was walking around wearing 0 while waiting to get 51 ...

Holmberg gets cut, Vrabel takes 50, and Bryan Cox is happy because slides right in and gets 51...

so technically for his first camp in New England, and in the preseason, Vrabel wore 51... So maybe the pullover is a homage to his first camp in New England... either that or he's tweaking Mayo... which is pretty effing funny...

Says the caveman calling the rest of us Neanderthals.

Isnt it usually considered a sign of respect to wear someone's number?

Nice catch! I forgot Vrabel started out with 51. Here’s a gallery which includes preseason games where he wore that:

I wonder if the practice shirt was his from way back when. I think hitting the time machine would be cool, trolling Mayo not so much.
