Triumphant Return of the Full Back

I am sure we can find a decent prospect in the late rounds of the draft... or in the undrafted prospects... all the backs left over after the draft to develop... im sure full back is not a position that is highly sought after in the draft...

It's funny Pape, that I was pondering this very subject last week before this Thread. Depending upon what the team expects from its version of a FB, if a player known in college for another position has the physical traits and the mental ability/desire to be a FB, they could find an absolute stud at the position. Develin was a DL at Brown I believe (DE). Most college players (even big ones), have been carrying football's as RB's and TE's since Pee-Wee Football. I'm curious as to what they can find for a young guy with excellent physical skills at another position that they could turn into a FB.

I don't mind trying the idea out if he is open to the idea. I'm also open to the idea of drafting around the 5th round for one. Like Kaden Feagin from Illinois who did not want to move to the defense and wanted to continue to play running back. He only got 67 carries this year and averaged 4.6 yards a carry but he is 6'3 250lbs and thats the typical FB size and he has ball handling experience. IMO its worthy of a late round pick.

Geesh he's like Derrick Henry at that size at FB.. who's gonna want to tackle him.. I'm definitely all for anyone who can play that position.. we just stand to be a much, much efficient and prolific offense next season.. Drake alone is enough for a DC to worry about..adding guys at WR, the development of Polk and baker, the TEs Henry and hopefully Hooper is back.. not to mention the 3rd down back in gibby..and rham running over defenders..

I'm on the fence with Rham. Another year older for a power back that usually don't last in the league more than 5 years (this will be year 4 for him). Plus the 7 fumbles last year is a concern. I am good with penciling him in at RB#1 but I think they should snag a possible replacement in the draft and bring them along the same way he is brought along to replace Harris as the featured back.

Yeah I agree there.. rham is smart though he took the money becuase the life of a RB isn't long in the NFL.. he's had some injuries and yeah the fumble are concentration issues.. rham is still I'd say a top 10 back in the NFL.. Harris is another guy that has ability.. if rham really continues with the fumble then yeah I can see his role diminishing.

I really want to see Gibson used like James White. I think Josh will do that and he will have a chance to shine.

Yesssss!! Gibby can line up out wide.. former college WR, he can run between the tackles, he can make defenders miss he has that quick burst you like to see in RBs like him.. he and pop stand the gain the most outside of Drake from Josh.. AVP coached last season like he had to get permission to call each play..

Sam Gash is my all time favorite FB. Why Grier let him walk after 1997 is still a mystery.

Devlin is 2nd. Aside from him taking out his own player (Jeremey Hill), he had his best season clearing lanes for Sony Michel.

I think gibby signed for 3 years?? So if so he has 2 more years on his deal. At 6"2 he's bigger than white, lewis, woodhead.. he has an elite 2nd gear.. like look how he broke outside for what 60 yards against the Seahawks.. I really like big things for gibby.. as I mentioned adding a kupp or Higgins on the outside takes this offense to another level.

True FBs just don't exist any more and TEs are basically WRs these days so I'd imagine the use of a hybrid possibly from either side of the line.

On the fence? I'm on the side of the fence that is saying "look the grass is greener over there"... If we can find someone better, who isn't going to put the ball down 7 times in a season, i'm all in on that... Rham has been in the league long enough to know how to protect the ball... felt like he just really didn't give a damn...

wouldn't hurt my feelings if the new brain trust felt it was time to move on...

i think there are a lot of guys that will do anything to make it in the NFL... including switching things up and learning how to play the unsung hero role on the team... and a FB is definitely one of those types of roles... the front office just has to find one...

Hypothetical....if at #4 Graham, Carter, and Hunter are gone and they don't want Campbell (for whatever reason) trading down and picking up Tyler Warren and another player (WR, DT, OT) wouldn't be the worst decision in the world.

It will be interesting to see if McDaniels will continue to feature a full back in the offense. As a stop gap, I wouldn't be opposed to letting Cole Strange give it ago in addition to back up center duties.
