Training Camp Thread 8/13/2013

I'm not sure how this is supposed to be some kind of insight from Bedard, it's ldo to anyone who has been following the team so far. And it's not "unsettled" because it's going to be worse than last year, it's only unknown right now because it's possible that we may have better guys on the roster than Gregory.

Actually, most of us have held out some hope that Tavon may get over the mental errors in year two, that Adrian may not have been as big of a liability in coverage as he was last year in Arizona, or that Gregory may not suck so bad (not sure how that would be possible, but it is what it is). According to Bedard, that hasn't changed. I thought that was noteworthy, personally.

As an aside, I wonder if Harmon (even though it's not his natural position), would be moved and start opposite McCourty if he has a strong camp/preseason.

Actually, I was off on what he said. His exact words...

Greg A. Bedard ? @GregABedard
Pats: Jamie Collins had a rough time in coverage, and the safety spot is still a mess, especially when McCourty moves to corner.

Is Bedard just a Patriots reporter for Peter King's new site now? Seems like he's been at all of the Patriots practices.

Bedard still lives around here so he goes to the practices when he hasn't been traveling for MMQB.

What's going on with A.Wilson? I thought he was supposed to be the safety opposite of McCourty and I've heard little about him the last two weeks. Did he get injured?

nope...he was on the practice field today

the Pats waived Vega today though

He is. Harmon plays at safety when McCourty switches to CB and they regularly run a 3 safety set in practice. There was a report that he regularly gets beaten in 1 on 1 coverage. I presume, and hope, he plays better playing nearer the box.

That didn't happen in the Eagles game.

He had 6 passing down snaps. That doesn't tell us much. Anyway, I'm reporting what I've heard about TC rather than the game.

Thanks Manx for keeping us updated on the festivities in training Camp.

Definitely. Thanks to manx and all who provide updates on the everyday goings on in practice, and for what it's worth to manx I have been writing the date "unAmerican" style on just about every formal document and even greeting cards since about 5th or 6th grade; much to the dismay of many teachers and professors who have attempted to persuade me otherwise.

It somehow became a habit, possibly to due to my Italian family having lived there and me picking up on it.....or something? Maybe I just enjoy being different?

My older brother went to camp yesterday. All he said was they looked sloppy. The weather was sloppy. Their reps were sloppy. The receivers made a bunch of sloppy drops. It was a Sloppapalooza. He did wait with a horde of others to get Tebow's autograph afterwards. My brother studied to be a missionary in his teens before going on to psychology and a career as a therapist. He's also a licensed hypnotherapist. I told him to offer his help to mesmerize Tebow into thinking he's Joe Montana. He didn't think I was very funny.

Neither does one random training camp report. Give the guy a chance to perform in actual games before assuming that he's ineffective.

And here I was thinking that Sloppapalooza was what happened when my friends and I took home that stripper from the Hustler Club in New Orleans.

I was at Foxboro yesterday and the weather was just a light sprinkle. Only in the last 30 minutes did the rain pick up. Using the weather as an excuse for drops and overall sloppiness is a poor one. BTW the weather didn't prevent Amandola from totally juking out his TB defenders.

"The New York Jets/Patriots is a crazy rivalry," he said. "It's almost like a hatred. But now I'm a Buccaneer and this is something new for me, being in training camp with another team. I'm just taking it in stride. It was funny because Mr. Kraft came up to me and said some encouraging words. It just shows how much respect you have from the other team when you're not on that side of the ball." - Revis

It would be interesting if he spoke with Tom or Bill and the tone of the conversations.

-The Mesko/Allen race continues. Allen can punt it farther, but Mesko's better at pinpointing his punts for the coverage teams.

This is the difference between:
46 yards, 7 return
44 yards, 4 return
44 yards, 9 return

and:

52 yards, 10 return
56 yards, 62 return

I'm sure BB was thrilled with that last one.

Agreed - punting accurately, particularly for a team like the Pats that tend to be punting from better field position than most, with a better punt coverage unit than most, is a huge factor. Not to say that Allen can't do it, but if it ends up coming down to an extra 7-8 yards on the gross vs. a guy who kicks less returnable punts and is better at pinning the opposition inside the 10, then IMO the Pats will take the latter without much hesitation.

Ive a cunning plan..

..always score - never punt!
