As far as I know, Wallace only took game snaps at RT. He did, however, practice as LT2 every day for the 4 years he was there according to his Coach. His Coach said as much and said that Wallace should be able to handle both sides.

Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to have panned out. Which means that the Pats still need a RT for the Future.

Based on all the scouting reports i just reread he was considered to be a project... lets hope he responds to the new ol coaches / coaching

He's playing LT but with torn patellar injuries:

Different techniques have varying re-rupture rates, with some studies showing rates as high as 50% depending on the specific method employed.

Even in the best studies there is a 3% failure rate and we're not talking people that put the strain these pro NFL athletes put on it.

It's a big risk he reinjures, which is why he fell.

I really think the team should just make Wilson the starting LG this year and put all of Strange’s efforts into more work at center to see if he can be a legitimate center long-term. There’s a world in which Strange is eventually better than Bradbury, re-signs as the starting C, and Wilson simply stays at LG for several years.

I am not sure we should resign Strange beyond his rookie contract. I think Strange is OK, not the 10th OLmen some are now claiming, but we need to upgrade going forward. I was hopeful Wallace could transition to OG but that does not look good either. And we have to wait because Campbell might be a better LG than LT which means Wilson is the Center and we redraft a LT in 2026. Lots of moving pieces. Do we keep Onwenu next year at RG at $19M? Who is the RT in 2026. Moses's knee looks like it will not hold up for 2 years, maybe not for this year. Marrone doing miracles with Jacobs is BS Boston Sports reporter stuff.

I have to assume the team’s current plans include him being the long term LT, which means they need a starting LG, which for now is Wilson. If Wilson moves to C then they’d need a LG. Of course, Bradbury is not the long term answer at C either. So IMO it makes sense to spend this season, or at least the rest of this camp, working Strange at C to see if he can be a starter. If he doesn’t show anything then they can just move off of him in 2026. If he maxes out at a backup LG/C then he won’t be worth keeping as some other team will pay him more to be a starter, or at least compete to start, most likely.

I agree. It is all in the air. I think Campbell will be OK at LT this year, but not sure he will be given a 2 year run. Maybe Campbell's LT struggles in camp are only because our DL is incredible.

Wilson appears to be a better OG today than Strange. I can only assume they like him at OG so him and Campbell are beside each other. What better way to help Campbell's development than putting the best LG, and probably our best lineman in camp so far on his inside shoulder. That said Strange should get opportunity at C this year. Beyond that, well I guess Stange is the master of his own destiny. If he doesn't work out, many teams, Pats included have done well drafting and developing Centers on day 3 of the draft.

It is very encouraging that the new draft guys hit it big on their first OG or Center pick. Hopefully that is a performance they can repeat a couple of times next year to rebuild our line.

Yes, Caeden entered his freshman season backing up Rasheed Walker. But Walker got hurt and Wallace ended up starting 4 games, playing in 5. He entered spring camp as the LT and lost his job to Olu Fashanu. Moved over to RT.

So, I guess you can say he was the backup LT in his freshman year, but ended up playing because of Walker's injury.

It was his first year and he was backing up Walker. They had him at LT the entire year. He didn't move over to RT until the next year when Fashanu showed up.

Not saying you're wrong, but as a PSU fan I don't remember him playing LT, but my memory isn't is good as it use to be. From the Pulpit during his rookie camp: "A third-round pick in this year’s draft, New England made it known after the selection that the plan for Wallace was to play left tackle. But outside of training at the position during practice, the 24-year-old never played the left side at Penn State as he started 40 games at right tackle." That could be wrong, but again I don't remember him playing left. I also saw he "played in 4 games as a Freshman", but no starts.

I think a lot of it comes down to doing a much better job identifying value and being ahead of the ball this year. They frequently took guys at a position other teams were not picking at the time, and then their pick would start a run on that position. In 2024, they were frequently chasing and selecting guys at a position at the end of a run, so probably “settled” for a guy they were not as high on.

You can probably chalk it up to Wolf really being a scout at heart and not having a great feel for this. Cowden, Streicher and Vrabel helped smooth out the operation. Perhaps Wolf and his staff are good at identifying talent but were simply bad at actually maneuvering appropriately to acquire it. Time will tell.

I'm a PSU fan too. Remember, he had a Covid year. 5 years total. So even though it's true he started 4 years at RT, he played for 5 years. This was the year before Fashanu got there.

EDIT: I found an article. He did not start. It appears he only played spot duty here and there. So he only played a handful of snaps. When it shows 4 games played, he didn't start, and he barely subbed.

I also see the confusion with PatsPulpit. Mike Reiss has an article quoting Coach Trautwein that Wallace practiced at LT even when he played RT, and Trautwein said that even though he didn't see game action at LT, he got practice time there. The problem with Trautwein's statement is that he joined Penn State in 2020 after Wallace's freshman year, so he didnt mention the prior year.

Camp is about competition. There are 3 guys competing for 2 jobs. They should not decide anything this early, they should have camp competition. It’s exactly what strengthens a team.
There is no where near a certainty that Wilson is better at G than C nor that Strange is better at C then G.
This is a pretty big overreaction to how they lined up one day early in camp.
