Tell everyone you didn't watch the games last year without telling everyone you didn't watch the games last year.

Elliss isn't a liability at LB. He was one of the better LBs in coverage and against the run. Not that facts matter to you. Andy.. You've been spewing this sort of garbage for 2 decades.
This post is an example of how to tell everyone you are a ****head without telling everyone you are a ****head.

Ellis was High Motor at the end of last year, it was mentioned OFTEN during the Game Day threads.
No one is saying he should make 25M per year, but I think he's useful.
6.5 is Chump Change for a decent player with that Motor IMO

YMMV
Maybe Elliss is worth the contract, but let's not pretend he is good just because he has a high motor.

They see a young guy who is a good special team player a good athlete and depth. We had a ton of cap room and a lot of openings.
Ya, not buying that. The Raiders and Pats don't offer a guy $13.5 over 2 years to be a special teams/role player. The highest paid special teamer (Turpin) makes $6M a year. Doesn't matter how much cap space we (and the Raiders) had, you don't overpay just because you have money.

ROY was worse, yet people want that clown.

Henderson speed is electric he has really come on during camp.. Josh has put him in excellent positions to showcase his abilities.. he's a match up nightmare for LBs and Safeties.. there is absolutely no way he's not on the field a lot this season no matter ehat anyone says. There's no one on the offense with his speed.
Williams is a tick faster.
Baker is a tick faster on the 10 yard split, a tick slower at 20 yards, and drops off at 40.

Those three are all fast enough to stress the coverage. Henderson has the advantage of matching up against LB or safety. Even Larison is quick enough to make those favorable matchups.

As I said, watch the film. It will open your eyes.

I hope he improves but the things he needs to improve are the most difficult to.
Back up LB and special teams players that you hope you can develop doesn’t come for peanuts.
But yes, they should not have matched.

As an aside, I would think that Hollins is more valuable as a special teamer (and active on Game Day) than any of Polk, Baker, or Chsim). But maybe not. Perhaps a special teamer like Pettus will beat Hollins out, or not.

Chism can play on all special teams, Polk, Baker, and Bourne contribute nothing. Chism can be on the game day roster, Polk, Baker, and Bourne won’t be because they can’t contribute on special teams, and there are at least 4 WR’s who are better than them.

WTF DOES THAT MEAN? SERIOUSLY?

JFC, some of you guys complain JUST to complain.
I don't get it, I've NEVER got it.

Bah

If Pop gets as many touches as the media are predicting, I expect him to miss significant time to injury. Chism might get elevated from the practice squad in that case.
Chism will never make it to the practice squad. If they release him he’s gone. They were in a bidding war with 6 teams to get him to sign here.

Speaking of high motor not equating to success, it's disappointing to see Keion White still be referred to as "erratic" this camp. I want to believe the potential is still there...

I believe it is.
We'll see, hopefully he'll shut up the Karen's

I really don't remember Ellis playing really well. I don't remember him being terrible, but I mainly remember his helmet defending more passes than his own hands. And if our run defense was as good awful as it was, it's hard to call anyone outside of Gonzalez "good" from last year's defense, as much as I hate to admit it.

Now, could Ellis look even better now that each unit has competent players now that can hold down their own job? Maybe! Fingers crossed.
It is hard to see anyone playing well on a bad defense. In 2017 the Pats paid Gilmore instead of Butler. A great player from a poor defense on a great defense suddenly is an all pro. He was never a lesser player, Butler was never better despite win percentage.

Randy Moss on the Raiders in 2006 and the Patriots in 2007 was the same exact player… the team changed, the talent and competency increased greatly around him and it’s a team sport.

If the 2025 Patriots are healthy and well schemed all their great or good players will level up production. Players that posters and media members told us weren’t good will have egg on their faces. Weeks ago I had people telling me Pop Douglas needed Chism to replace him or he wasn’t good enough… foolish.
Ranking statistically the middle of a terrible defense isn’t something to be proud of. Tavai led the team in tackles last year was he good?

Tackle statistic are meaningless without context. When teams run at you and gash your defense but you make the tackle after a 9 yard gain that’s not a feather in your cap.

Watch the tape. He is not instinctual as a LB reading a play and stepping up into the right place. That is doom for a lb. He seems lost in the passing game, it’s right there on tape.
Yes he has some physical skills that allow him to make plays in spite of his poor LB skills, and yes he’s a good special teams player. But the dude is not a starting caliber NFL LB. An hour of film study will tell you that.

He will be here, and he will have a big role on special teams. He should be a reserve lb and play situationally and if he begins the year as a starter he won’t end it as one, unless he learns how to think, read and react like a LB.
Again it’s all there on the film.
Tavai started every game but one, started the 2nd most defensive snaps on the team.

Ellis 5 starts, the 11th most defensive snaps… Tavai was first in tackles, Ellis third despite playing almost half the snaps. Poor scheme and team can make everyone look poor.

I'm not worried about it, it's camp. Now if he's erratic when the bullets fly for real I will be disappointed, but we're a month away from that.

For some context. Remember Chase's rookie year (after he didn't play his final college season), the sky was falling in Cincy during camp, Oh my god we made a mistake drafting him, he can't catch the ball... Goes on to have 1455 yds and 13 tds his rookie season. Weather it's White, or Campbell, or whatever name you want to add, it's camp and camp only.

Then you haven’t been paying attention. The post practice reports I watch nightly have reported that he’s always open, but they aren’t getting him the ball. Chism is going to make the 53.

Link to the 6 teams that were in a bidding war for Chism?

I'm not sure about 6, but I know he was a highly sought after UDFA. I read a few articles on it, but don't remember the number of teams mentioned.

just found this:

Six NFL teams hosted Efton Chism III for one of their 30 pre-draft visits, according to reports. While the New England Patriots weren't among those six teams, they did secure him as an undrafted free agent after head coach Mike Vrabel personally contacted him

Not exactly a bidding war then, but appreciate the link.
