Separation week: Polk and Baker Needs to separate themselves. Now is the Time no more BS.
Twin. It feels like baker of all guys seems to have the inside track to make the final roster..

Happy 30th Birthday to Kendrick Bourne... celebrate by taking a week off.

The New England Patriots are facing another injury setback as wide receiver Kendrick Bourne is expected to miss time following an injury sustained during last Friday’s in-stadium scrimmage.
Bourne exited the practice early after getting rolled up on, and head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed Monday that the veteran wideout will not participate this week.
“The update was just kind of got rolled up and he won’t be out here,” Vrabel said. “I wouldn’t anticipate him this week. So, he’ll be working hard to get back, just like everybody else that’s not going to be out here.”

He’s 36 years old and we haven’t heard a thing about any injuries with him in practice.

To me, until I hear actual reporting otherwise, this seems to be a very clear case of them pacing a 36 year old guy in training camp. We’ve seen this lots of times before under Belichick.
I recall Vrabel actually saying that they had a plan regarding Moses when it came to practice's.

He also liked Polk, he blamed last season on a lack of coaching because he said Polk had too much talent to be that bad. Good thing Steve isn’t a scout.
Or maybe he's right and our coaching staff was such a complete ****show last year that he was completely mismanaged. He had a terrible season no doubt, but maybe he gets better under real coaching and Smith will be right in the end. That's the hope anyway!

I agree with Steve that the coaching staff blew it and that’s why last years draft picks get clean slate, however normally talent rises above bad coaching.

I'm noticing.

One thing I have noted with K Boutte is that he has very good hands. To be a good WR it starts with the hands then everything else will come: IF you can't catch see Harry - Tyquan and others
He'll also not be the #1 anymore which he was by default last year. That alone raises his stock. He'll be better against #2 and #3 DBs.

He doesn't have to if they keep him upright and give him very good Talent. Daniels is special he almost lead them to SB in Year one.
Can't say I wasn't a little jealous watching Daniel's last year... especially in the playoffs.

If our top 4 WR's are: Diggs, Boutte, Pop, Hollins.
Then it makes sense to take a swing on either Polk or Baker rather than Bourne - only because they're in the same bucket, as far as size and type of routes and skill a this point... that is - IF both can get their head game figured out in time.
That's the one thing Bourne does bring - a very good attitude and he knows where to be in the scheme. He's still reasonably productive.

But I don't think we should keep both Polk & Baker. Roll with whomever is consistently excelling and doesn't make mental errors in the preseason. Then take Chism as the 6th or 7th.

Hollins needs to blast off in production and physical traits in order to take Bourne's spot on the roster. Cause if it's a toss up, I'd keep Bourne.

Ponder was a high demand UDFA. The Pats may have given him an over slot deal to come here. He was certainly discussed as someone who could possibly make this team in the UDFA Signings thread. .

The best talent rises above bad coaching. Some other NFL capable players can’t, but will thrive under good coaching. Think about the guys who other teams cut that Belichick was able to turn into decent players. None were stars, but they helped.

One extreme example was Barkeveous Mingo. Huge bust as #5 overall pick by Cleveland. Guess where he had the best season of his career and was a plus player (special teamer only) contributing to a Super Bowl win?

I think Boutte is going to make the Troy-Brown-jump more than Pop or Diggs.
Those 2 will probably be similar in numbers - like around 60-70 catches, ~750yds. (Diggs will draw a lot of coverage)
But Boutte could jump from his 43 to in the 80's, and surpass them both as the receiving yards leader (~900)
Whether it's Hollins, Williams, Bourne - they'll sprinkle in with ~20 catches.
The TE's & RB's will have a good amount too & probably getting the bulk of the pass TD's.

Good to see the hamstring healing sooner than later
Let him take all the time he can. It would be nice to see another one of the kids emerge alongside DJ. Give them all plenty of reps.

Well that's ridiculous
I agree completely, but you know how many are on this forum.

If anyone took exception to what I said then it was probably directed at you. LMAO

The play in the video was a db falling down and a routine route/catch. But that’s not the play they referred to.
Yes because if that was the one handed layout catch his best of training camp then it would be disappointing

But perhaps the most interesting is this, as we get deeper into the process it gets harder to dismiss the thought that we won't get a something good out of Polk/Baker/Chism. The more time that goes on the more it seems less likely this turns into a nothing burger.
I think you got lost in the double negative phrasing, if I parsed it correctly. But if I understood what you meant I agree, it seems very likely that at least one of Polk/Baker/Chism will contribute something good.

I’m even starting to think that it may be more than one of them. Chism has always seemed the best bet, and recently Baker seems to be waking up. I’m hoping WR cutdown will find it tough for the coaches to find anyone not roster worthy.
