I've never said he's a bum, but he is what he is, 8 years is a big sample size. If any of the 3 young kids show promise I just don't see how you keep Bourne at $7.7M. IR may be a different story.
You're thinking they may need that 7.7M ?

You can always roll it over for next year and use a part of it for gonzos extension.
Bourne is not worth more than 3 million. So most likely he is cut and signs off with another team for 2-2.5 million.

Nobody will trade for Bourne with current contact.

There's always surprise cuts ever year, or trades that present themselves. Do they need the 7.7, probably not, but if that's the justification to keep a guy who might be WR #5 or 6 then that right there should be the reason you cut him.

Not super worried about Red Zone woes just yet. The RZ is probably the hardest place to score it feels like these past few years in the NFL. I could be completely wrong, but defenses have adapted pretty well to this pass-happy offense and the RZ is so well covered by these hybrid-like players. I'm hoping that the Patriots elect to smash the opposing line in the mouth more often with the run game in the RZ this season (if they can get some lanes open!)

However, it's a thin line between me not worrying and fearing where we were at last year. For lack of the stat off my head, let's just call it "miserable"

I was thinking Moses stays on as a coaching assistant and takes on a bigger role next season should he actually hang the cleats up.
He’s 36 years old and we haven’t heard a thing about any injuries with him in practice.

To me, until I hear actual reporting otherwise, this seems to be a very clear case of them pacing a 36 year old guy in training camp. We’ve seen this lots of times before under Belichick.

Miserable is pretty accurate! I think Josh will be more creative down there and Maye will be more of a run threat. We should be able to keep Ds more off balance. Every opposing D knew what we were going to do in the RZ under AVP last year. It was predictable.....and awful.

His name has appeared several times as a player who caught the reporter’s eye in a positive way. More so than Polk.
Yess: Mr Baker is making things very interesting. I think he's well ahead of Bourne and Barefoot Hollins; I'm taking the playmaker Baker and hope our brass do too.

Barefoot Hollins hit a nerve eh Steve.

It’s the constant pumping of the tires of Baker.

Are you wheelchair bound? Is that why you love this guy? Looking for a miracle ?

Have to be pretty excited about DJ James. He was known to be an excellent cover corner in college, the main scouting concerns were his slight frame. He’s 6 feet tall, but only was 175 lbs coming out of college. But there were pretty much no concerns about his skills, good speed at 4.42, good feet, good at either man coverage or zone.

I think a lot of what players become is confidence. He has the talent, and I think this training camp performance has given him a lot of confidence.

I’m not getting my hopes up, but the Pats have a history of finding late round/UDFA DBs that worked out. Some became Pro Bowlers or even 2nd team All Pros.

Maybe, just maybe.

Cutting him only saved about $4.1M when you consider the person replacing him.
