Trades, Rumors, Sliders

Detroit reportedly has a deal in place with Aaron Curry. They want to take Matthew Stafford #1 but are putting pressure on him to accept a lesser deal, and plan to sign Curry by Friday if Stafford can't come to terms.

Smart move by the Lions (that's a rare statement these days!). Stafford has little leverage as he could fall to 8 or lower if he doesn't sign with Detroit, and whatever they are offering has got to be much more than he would make there. I'm sure he'll end up signing, but not till the last moment possible in the hopes that Detroit will blink first.

There's no way Detroit is giving a 40 million dollar bonus to an inside linebacker and making him #1 overall. That's crazy. I think they are bluffing just to induce Stafford to sign a little cheaper.

Yawn. Sliding Curry down one's board by the "experts" is the flavor du jour--smokescreening at best, useless, draft-exhuastion speculation at worst. Nothing at all has changed about the equation where Curry is concerned:

Safest pick in the draft, best defensive player in the draft, possibly the best player in the draft.

If Detroit is smart, they'll take him (or possibly OT) at #1. If not, he goes to KC in all probability. Is he in the conversation for a Pats trade-up? Yes--if every team in the top ten goes offense. In other words, next to nil. Will Tyson Jackson be taken before Curry? Really don't think so.

Detriot has made lots worst decisions with their #1 pick.
