I have been silently hoping (as many probably have) since the offseason that a vet CB who isn't fitting in at his current team but has something left in the tank will somehow fall into the Patriots' laps. Doesn't have to be a top 10 guy just a guy who has a plenty of experience and a track record of showing he belongs in a starting line up somewhere.
Problem: we will be at the back of the line for a cut, we have very little money, and the Aholes took away a very sizable chunk of our draft pick trade capital. So whomever and however that CB falls out of the sky, he will really have to fall out of the sky. So what are the chances another Talib like trade could happen?? Is it a hundred to one or is it more likely a million to one? ("so you're saying there's a chance").
Bottom line on the secondary and any possible trades: I think what we have is what we have. Any change to its makeup will consist of a castoff, injury plagued, or a wing and a prayer guy. So we have to continue to hope that Butler is a solid CB in the making and the team's overall strength compensates for the seeming weakness in the secondary. On that I think there is good news. If the LB group is capable of being that stellar playmaking unit -- which it appears they could be -- IMHO that is a more key component to a capable D than anything else. A stellar playmaking LB group is the basis/engine for stifling an opposing offense and elevating the play of the other D components (Secondary and DL).
